Hey Bear! We had fun watching this black bear — from a safe but close enough distance in our dinghy. We were surprised to watch him climb over waterfalls, steep rocks, and travel across the cove— all the way to where we were trying to hike, and proceeded to steal our hiking spot up to a waterfall. Rude bear.

6 day liveaboard classes are where it’s at!

We lucked out with the weather and packed a LOT of learning into one week!

Students provisioned for life aboard (maybe enough food to survive for months), checked safety equipment, and set sail toward Aialik Glacier where they got to navigate amongst bergy bits, and practice sailing at the glacier!

There were late nights kicking back at anchor, hanging out on the beach, and soaking up the Alaska scenery. And because apparently perfect visibility is too easy, we even squeezed in some low-visibility navigation practice in the fog, while searching for whales!

This crew chose to cruise back to Seward early and put their new skills to the test by joining the 2 day sailing race— the Alaska Cup— with our local WHSYC!

A full week of sailing, navigation, safety, racing, glacier dodging, and learning how to live aboard—all with a pretty spectacular classroom. Not a bad way to spend 6 days!

A L A S K A C U P ! Two days. Six races. Zero letdowns.
Huge thanks to WHSYC and our race committee for another epic Alaska Cup!

Seward showed up with perfect conditions for a weekend of next-level competition!
Our skippers brought serious talent to the starting line — intense starts, photo finishes, sharp tactics, and incredible teamwork amongst crews! Everyone putting in the work race after race and making it look good out there.

And just to make it even better — one of our ASA sailing classes jumped straight into race action, capping off a jam-packed 6-day course with real, live racing experience. That’s how you learn to sail!

Congrats to every team that raced — you made this one of the most fun and exciting Alaska Cups yet. And a huge congratulations to our overall winner, Wild Thing!

Psst... keep an eye out — racing AND spinnaker classes are coming your way soon.

Top favorite place to go sailing: Aialik Glacier! It’s a long day of travel around the cape, but always worth it!Sometimes we play around on paddle boards, zip around on the dinghy, and play peekaboo with seals. This time, there wasn’t too much ice so we got to sail the katabatic wind coming off the glacier! What a treat!

How fast can you don your immersion suit!?

Curious students raced to gear up in a “gumby suit” and test them out in our frigid Alaskan waters.

Who do you think will win?
*Hint* the one who is more likely to read the directions first. 😜

Watch until the end to see care tips for your immersion suit… because they aren’t cheap, but they’ll save lives!

This sea lion followed us around during docking practice, then made sure we were watching and put on a nice show for us! What a treat for gearing up and getting out in this pouring rain!

Time to explore! We love bringing people to Rugged Island to check out this super cool WWII bunker and all the surrounding remains that nature has taken over.
It’s not often we get the right conditions and timing to make it happen—nice sea conditions so we can anchor there, and a relaxed schedule so we don’t have to rush through. This day we were waiting out the fog, so we really got to explore more… We found the CG caution light/day marker, some old wooden pipes, & our 2019 note left in the geocache box! Love when life slows down a bit!
