Flotilla to Kodiak: 3 sister ships - Madrona, Merlot & Morning Mist - made it 228 miles to Kodiak! Two boats cruised the coastline enjoying beautiful anchorages while one b-lined it across in 26 hours after wrapping up boat projects. Then we experienced “cruising: fixing your boat in exotic places” when Madrona’s starter went out. Luckily we had a spare starter, our resident mechanic Nate, and another Seward boat who came to the rescue with the right tools! With the 1-day delay, some crew got to hitch a seaplane in to Kodiak!

It was a quick turn and burn in town as each boat switched out crew. One bareboat charter crew flew in from England! Excited to see what the 2nd half of the trip has in store for us! So far, sunshine and fog as we depart Afognak and head back to mainland Alaska!

Girl-boat Kodiak Trip report: these 3 women are having a blast sailing Alaska’s incredible rugged coastline, spotting wildlife, and enjoying some of the best summer weather Alaska has to offer.

This special Basic to Bareboat course provides the opportunity for these women to learn to sail while stepping outside their comfort zone and building confidence on the water. Together, they’re safely navigating into anchorages and across open-water passages, carefully monitoring weather forecasts, sea conditions, and navigation instruments along the way.

And of course, sailing with a buddy boat provides a few extra perks: added piece of mind (like when you need more syrup), plenty of encouragement, and more than a few laughs (like when the boys swamp their dinghy)!

Starting with a
🏔️multi-day charter to Northwestern Fjords,
🗜️installing new things!,
⛵️first sailing class,
🔧boat work,
🍾opening harbor weekend festivities,
✏️a 2nd sailing class,
⚓️more boat projects,
🏆sail racing, another class,
💍an elopement! and
☀️ended with sunny spring weather!

We’re here to SAIL! Come sailing with us this summer!
