Why does my tire pressure change during the hot summer weather?

Your tire pressure changes because the air expands when it gets warmer and contracts when it gets cooler. On a hot summer day, the air inside your tires heats up from both the outside temperature and the friction of driving.

Here’s what happens:
-For every 10°F increase in temperature, your tire pressure increases by about 1 PSI.
-After driving for 20-30 minutes, your tires naturally warm up even more, causing the pressure to rise.

Why this matters:
-Too much pressure can reduce traction and cause uneven wear in the center of the tire.
-Too little pressure can hurt fuel economy, increase stopping distance, and wear the edges of your tires faster.

💡Pro Tip for you:
Check your tire pressure at least once a month during the summer and keep it at the PSU listed on the sticker insider your driver’s door.
