This is one we're working on this week. There's coolant in the block but not because of an aged, blown head gasket or even the mistake of putting the wrong fluid in the wrong place.
This 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe was involved in a minor accident. The Tahoe still managed to start and run for a while after the accident until the engine finally locked up. After some searching, we found that when the front bumper was hit, the impact was just hard enough to crack one of the heads! The rest of the block is fine (cast iron) but all the coolant mixed with the oil, locking up the engine.
This is a friendly reminder that a vehicle may start and run for a while after an accident, but it's still important to have it checked afterward. Your safety is a huge concern for us, and we're grateful this customer trusted us with handling the rest of the inspection. There were certainly other safety concerns, so we're glad to be able to help keep our customer and others on the road safe.

Although we haven’t even reached the hottest part of the year, we’re already seeing overheating cars and performing A/C services. Keep yourself and your vehicle safe by taking the proper precautions so you’re not left stranded.
1.) Monitor coolant level and top off when needed.
2.) Pay attention to how often you’re having to replace fluid (too often means there’s a leak).
3.) Take note of any strange fluid in your driveway.
4.) Do coolant flushes (recommended every 30,000-50,000 miles).
