I finally get the adapted clutch lever working before moving on to modifying the throttle and choke cables to suit the new controls. Using solder-on cable ni***es and a few simple workshop techniques, I adapt the original BMW cables instead of replacing everything with expensive custom-made items.

The BMW K75 Cafe Racer Project continues as I focus on some of the finishing touches that make a huge difference to both the appearance and functionality of the bike.

In this episode I begin test fitting the new LED lighting, adapt aftermarket brake and clutch levers to work with the original BMW cables, and see how everything comes together with the new switchgear.

Although these seem like small jobs, they're an important part of turning an older BMW into a clean, modern cafe racer while retaining reliability and good ergonomics.

I bought another unfinished motorcycle. 🤦‍♂️This time it's a 1979 Honda CB750 — non-running, half finished and seemingly abandoned.

Can you actually learn to weld well enough to build your own motorcycle frame?

That was the challenge this week on the BMW K75 Cafe Racer project. I started with probably the cheapest MIG welder on the market (which was... an experience 😅), upgraded the equipment, spent plenty of time practicing, and eventually fabricated the custom rear frame.

I also couldn't resist testing one of those "metal welding" epoxy products to see whether modern metal glue is really as strong as people claim.

Some surprising results, a few questionable welds, and another big step forward for the K75 build!

Can you make a motorcycle seat pan from a plastic chopping board? 🤔

That's exactly what I tried on the BMW K75 build this week!

A bit of heat, a bit of trial and error, and it actually worked far better than I expected. I also started relocating the ECU and electrics to clean up the rear end of the bike.

The BMW K75 Cafe Racer is starting to look like a real bike now! 🏍️

This week's episode is all about building one of the biggest visual features of any cafe racer—the custom seat.

After making the seat pan, it's time to shape the foam, stretch the cover, and wrestle with some surprisingly difficult curves. I also test-fit the rear LED light and look at a new location for the ECU.

It's not finished yet, but the transformation is already making a huge difference to the overall look of the bike.

After plenty of head-scratching, rebuilding the carbs, chasing electrical gremlins and a few setbacks, the Honda CB750 Cafe Racer is finally back on the road!

There's nothing quite like hearing an old project burst into life for the first time. In this episode I finish the latest jobs, fire it up, and take it out for its first proper ride.
