A check engine light is your vehicle’s way of telling you that its computer has detected a fault, but the light itself doesn’t tell you exactly what needs to be repaired.

When the light comes on, the vehicle stores one or more diagnostic trouble codes that can help point a technician toward the system where the problem was detected. Those codes are a starting point, not necessarily a diagnosis. Proper testing may still be needed to determine the actual cause before any parts are replaced.

A steady check engine light generally means the vehicle has detected a problem that should be diagnosed. A flashing check engine light can indicate a more serious condition and should be addressed promptly.

At Sherman’s Auto Repair, our technicians use diagnostic equipment, vehicle data and further testing to identify the cause of the problem and help determine the appropriate repair.

🔧 Check engine light on? Schedule a diagnostic inspection and find out what your vehicle is actually telling you.
