🚐✨ Classic RV Spotlight: The Foretravel Grand Villa ✨🚐
First introduced in 1986, the Grand Villa was a game-changer in the motorhome world. With its aerodynamic design, spacious interiors, and advanced engineering, it quickly became one of the most popular motorhomes of its era. Built on the rugged Oshkosh chassis with air suspension, air brakes, and powerful diesel engines like the Caterpillar 3208 or the Cummins 8.3, coupled with an Allison MT-643 four-speed transmission, the Grand Villa set new standards in comfort, luxury and drivability.
Foretravel was also the first to introduce rear-engine diesel power to a conventional motorhome in the 1970s, and the Grand Villa carried that legacy forward with innovations like airbag suspensions and the monocoque “Unihomes” design, an aircraft-style unibody structure that combined strength, durability, and a smoother ride. Unlike most RVs of the time, these coaches didn’t just sit on a ladder frame; the body and chassis worked together as one, making them lighter, quieter, and far more advanced than their competitors.
At Almaden RV Service & Repairs, we’ve been caring for Grand Villas (and Foretravel coaches in general) for decades. That experience means we know how to quickly troubleshoot and repair the chassis, air suspension, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as update appliances, flooring, lighting, TVs, and audio systems. We can even design and install a complete solar package to give you more power, more freedom, and extended boondocking adventures wherever the road takes you.
