Don't Let Wet Weather Can Wreak Havoc on Your Prius!
A recent story from the shop about a pair of 2nd Gen Prii (aka, Priuses). Both hybrids had the original valve covers which allowed for water to pool in the spark plug wells. Result? Misfires and an engine that just wouldn't cooperate. We were able to take a peek and found a spark plug well that turned into an unexpected swimming pool, corrosion had begun building up.
, we were able to determine what caused this issue. Debris (leaves, dirt, etc.) can build up in the windshield cowl and block the drains. Water is unable to drain and overflows into the spark plug wells. We replaced the original valve covers with updated valve covers that have a channel to allow for water to drain, keeping the spark plugs nice and dry.
What's the takeaway? Prius owners - regularly check your windshield cowls for excess debris or consider upgrading to Toyota's updated valve cover with the cutaway to prevent future water build-ups.
