This is what proper seat cushion installation looks like. 🔧

A Master Upholsterer walks through the process from foam adjustment and cushion positioning to wire harness routing, trimming, and securing the upholstery.

We’re also using the right upholstery tools along the way, including a clip remover, sockets, pneumatic tools, upholstery rings, and a stapler.

It’s the small details that make the difference in auto upholstery.

There’s always more work underneath a leather seat than people realize.

For this Lexus IS 250, we’re carefully removing the moldings, clips, switches and screws before getting into the actual leather seat installation. Then we have to deal with the airbag reinforcement, tensioners, foam adjustments and wiring before everything can go back together.

I’m using the pneumatic hog ring gun here to install the hog rings and secure the upholstery. It definitely makes the job faster, but you still have to pay attention to the tension and positioning of the leather.
One thing I always tell people is don't force the trim. If something isn't lining up, stop and figure out what you missed. Usually the car is telling you something. 😄
This is just part of what goes into professional automotive upholstery and getting a leather seat to fit the way it should.

If you’ve ever taken apart a Lexus interior, you already know there can be a lot of little pieces to keep track of.

For this Lexus, we’re carefully removing the seat trim, switches, screws, and clips before moving forward with the upholstery work. The trick is not forcing anything. Some clips release in a certain direction, and the wrong amount of pressure can easily break them.

When preparing Lexus leather seats, taking your time during disassembly helps make the installation cleaner and the finished interior fit properly.

There’s something satisfying about watching a Lexus headrest come together piece by piece. 👀

No talking. Just the sound of the upholstery process, the leather, the foam, the clips, and the hands doing the work.

One important detail: instead of stretching the leather cover over the foam, we compress the foam into the cover to help achieve a cleaner, more controlled fit.

2009 Lexus headrest upholstery can look complicated, especially when you see the finished result. But once you understand the technique, the process makes a lot more sense.

I’m showing you one of the little tricks we use when installing leather seats and working the cover into place. It’s not about having every special tool, it’s about knowing how to work the material.

After we finish trimming the rear armrest, we need to locate the factory mounting holes before putting everything back together.

We find the original holes, carefully open the leather at each location, and make sure the hardware goes underneath the material. This allows the rear armrest to line up and secure properly.
It may seem like a small step, but details like this are important for a clean leather seats installation and a proper factory-style fit.

Ever wonder why we keep the original upholstery pattern on a Lexus IS250? 👀

It may look like an old piece of material, but it gives us the reference we need to rebuild the rear armrest correctly.

We follow the original pattern for the trimming and seam allowance, then use a staple gun and 1/4-inch staples to secure the double stitch. After checking the alignment, we trim the outer section carefully so the molding can fit back into place without interference.

This is the behind-the-scenes work that makes a difference when building leather seats and restoring a Lexus interior.

This 2022 Challenger S**t Pack already has the wheels, the attitude, and plenty of carbon fiber details. But when you look inside, the factory cloth seats just don’t have the same feel.

That’s where we come in. At LeatherTeck by EM Upholstery Technology, we’re transforming this interior with custom red leather seats inspired by the SRT Hellcat look.

We’ll take you through the process from the original seats to the finished interior. The best part? You can follow along and see exactly how the transformation comes together.

A small interior piece like this Lexus IS250 rear armrest can take more work than people expect.

The process starts with preparing the piece and material, positioning everything correctly, shaping the upholstery around the curves, making clean relief cuts, stretching the material evenly, and securing it underneath with the proper upholstery tools.

The upholstery staple gun is only one tool in the process. The real work is getting the material to follow the shape of the lid without wrinkles, loose areas, or uneven edges.

For anyone interested in DIY automotive upholstery or curious about how a professional upholstery installer does it, these small details make a big difference.

And when the project includes leather seats, the surrounding trim needs the same attention to detail.

That pneumatic hog ring gun sound means we're getting closer. 👀
When you're installing leather seats, the trimming and securing stage can make a big difference in the final result. On this Lexus IS250, we're working on the rear backrest and carefully positioning the cover before securing it with hog rings.
The pneumatic hog ring gun helps speed up the installation, but getting the upholstery positioned correctly is still what makes the difference.
Don’t have time for the installation? We got you. Call or text us at (909) 323-0857.
