2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE350
This vehicle came in with a check engine light and the following faults:
• P0016 – Intake camshaft position (Bank 1) implausible
• P0011 – Intake camshaft position (Bank 1) deviates from the specified value

A lot of times these codes can be caused by something as simple as a faulty camshaft adjuster solenoid (the two black components at the front of the engine in the photo). A quick test ruled those out.
After digging deeper, we found the real problem: the reluctor ring on the intake camshaft had spun, throwing off the camshaft position.
The correct repair was replacing the camshaft and VCT sprocket—not the solenoids.
👀 Now for the challenge...
Can you tell which reluctor ring is the culprit by comparing the left and right intake/exhaust camshafts?
The angle of the picture doesn't make it easy, but there are a few context clues.

This is a perfect example of why proper testing is so important.
One of the questions we hear all the time is:
"Why is there a diagnostic fee? Doesn't the computer just tell you what's wrong?"
We recently had a 2018 Infiniti Q50 come in with a check engine light. The only code stored was P0101 – Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit Performance.
Many people would assume that means the mass air flow sensor is bad. But after extensive testing, research, and following the diagnostic process, we found the real problem wasn't the sensor at all.
The correct repair was an ECM software update.
If we had simply replaced the mass air flow sensor because of the code, the check engine light would have come right back, and the customer would still have the same problem.
A trouble code is a starting point, not a diagnosis.
That's why we take the time to diagnose the problem correctly instead of guessing.
We performed the software update and gained another happy customer.
Nobody wants to keep returning to the shop for the same issue.
Get it fixed right the first time.

The dreaded LS lifter tick...
This 2007 Escalade 6.2L came in with a failed lifter—a common issue on many GM LS-based engines.
Since the engine was already apart, the customer decided to take advantage of the opportunity. Instead of reinstalling a stock camshaft, we upgraded it with a Texas Speed Stage 1 performance cam, deleted the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system, and finished it off with a custom performance tune.
Who doesn't want a little more horsepower while fixing the problem? 😎
Sometimes a repair is more than just getting a vehicle back on the road—it's the perfect opportunity to make it even better.

Buying a used car can be nerve-racking.

Before you hand over your cash or sign on that dotted line, consider having the vehicle inspected by a professional.

Our pre-purchase inspections are designed to help you know exactly what you're buying. We provide a comprehensive inspection with photos, identify any areas of concern, and give you honest advice—no pressure.

Sometimes you find the perfect vehicle, but it still needs a little work. That's okay. We'll explain what needs attention, prioritize the repairs, and help you build a plan that fits your budget.

A small investment in an inspection today could save you thousands tomorrow.

With all the rain & flooding we've been getting, don't ignore any new warning lights, strange noises, or changes in how your vehicle drives.
Water can affect wheel bearings, electrical connectors, engine air filters, and hydrolock can completely destroy an engine. These traction changes also has your ABS system working overtime.
If something doesn't feel right after driving through high water, it's always better to have it checked sooner rather than later.
Stay safe out there, and remember... if you can't tell how deep the water is, don't drive through it.

A/C not working? Sometimes the problem is much bigger than it seems.

This 2012 Mercedes-Benz C250 came in because the A/C blower motor wasn't working.

After testing the system, we traced the problem to the front pre-fuse assembly. Once disassembled, we found the fuse had blown—but what caught our attention was that someone had previously tried to solder the fuse back together.

A fuse is designed to protect the electrical system. Soldering a blown fuse defeats that protection and can create a serious fire hazard. It's never a recommended repair.

So why did the fuse blow in the first place?

The blower motor was beginning to seize, causing it to draw excessive current until the fuse failed. Simply replacing the fuse would have resulted in the same problem all over again.

The correct repair was replacing the failing blower motor, the blower motor control unit, and properly repairing the pre-fuse assembly.

The takeaway: A blown fuse is usually a symptom—not the root cause. Finding why it failed is just as important as replacing it.
