The 350 and 400 are back! Only this time, they’re Gen 6 Small Blocks. 🔥

GM just dropped more details on the V8s headed for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, and apparently downsizing wasn't part of the assignment.

* 5.7L L76 — 402 HP / 428 LB./FT.
* 6.6L L78 — 481 HP / 501 LB./FT.
* Direct + port fuel injection
* New variable oil pump and lubrication system
* Traditional 4.40-inch Small Block bore spacing
* 10-speed automatic
* Up to 13,700 pounds of towing with the 5.7L Silverado

The new 5.7-liter replaces the current 5.3L, while the 6.6-liter takes over for the 6.2L. GM says the 481 horsepower L78 is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in the light-duty truck segment. Better yet, these engines join the new 6.7L Corvette LS6 as part of GM's Gen 6 Small Block family.

So, more displacement, more power, pushrods, and nearly 500 naturally aspirated horsepower from a factory truck engine. We're already wondering what happens when somebody yanks an L78 out of a wrecked Silverado and stuffs it into an old Camaro. 😎

Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate, better known as ZDDP, has long been an important anti-wear component in motor oil. For flat-tappet valvetrains, it has been considered the key to proper break-in, but Lake Speed, Jr. doesn't believe that more is better, so he undertook a significant round of testing that combined dyno testing with laboratory testing to figure out the real flat-tappet break-in secret sauce, and make it not so secret. Spoiler alert: More isn't necessarily better.

***Experience:
Professional automotive repair in multiple areas relevant to automotive repairs and service (required)
Familiarity working on all makes and models.(required)
Proven experience with automotive diagnostics, schematics reading, and electrical systems troubleshooting.(required)
Hands-on experience repairing powertrains, transmissions, diesel engines, and performing vehicle maintenance.

***Helpful but not required:
Wheel alignment procedures knowledge, welding knowledge, fabrication knowledge, performance knowledge, classic car knowledge.
