We just dropped a blog post that explains exactly why your BMW's cooling system costs what it costs…and spoiler alert, it's way more than plastic and aluminum.

Be honest, have you ever bought a cheap part online, only to realize it didn’t fit, forgot the gasket, or had to wait a week with your car stuck in the driveway?

You see a brake pad online for $40. We quote $80. Greedy markup? Not so fast.

“Cheap parts aren’t savings. They’re a down payment on a tow truck.”

We just wrote a whole blog post breaking down why parts mark up isn’t greed, it’s experience, warranty, same-day delivery, and a family shop that’s been in San Angelo since 1966. Click the link to read why “cheap” usually costs more.

We kept your car all day for a "diagnostic" and we're not sorry. 😏

San Angelo, be honest: Have you ever been told you need a $$$$$ catalytic converter based on nothing but a code?

Here's the reality. That P0420 code? It could be a bad oxygen sensor, an exhaust leak you can't see, or even a misfire that hasn't thrown its own code yet. We don't guess. We smoke test, we check live data, we cold-start your car, and we drive it under real conditions. That takes a full day. Sometimes more.

Click the link to read our full, unfiltered blog post on why thorough diagnostics save you money, and why Ric Henry’s Auto Service has been San Angelo’s trusted dealership alternative since 1966.

Question for you: Would you rather have a quick guess today, or the right answer tomorrow?

Think “variable timing” is something from a breakup text? 😂

Variable Valve Timing sounds like a buzzword from a luxury car commercial, but here’s the truth: it’s the reason your engine has low-end torque and high-end power. When it fails? Rough idle, poor acceleration, and a check engine light you can’t ignore.

We wrote a full blog post explaining exactly what VVT is doing inside your engine (no engineering degree required).

Click the link to read it: https://www.richenryautoservice.com/why-does-my-engine-have-variable-valve-timing-what-is-it-actually-doing

Question for you, San Angelo: Have you ever had a “check engine” code that turned out to be something way simpler, or way weirder, than you expected? Drop your story in the comments. 👇

We hear it all the time. Usually with crossed arms and a raised eyebrow.

"Wait. OEM parts? Those cost more. Are you just trying to make more money off me?"

Fair question. So let us answer it straight.

Here is the truth we have learned over decades of fixing cars in San Angelo. We make roughly the same markup on OEM parts as we do on aftermarket parts. If we wanted to pad your bill, we would just recommend a transmission flush with unicorn tears.

We push OEM for one boring, unsexy reason. Comebacks. When a cheap part fails three months later, you are not mad at the part. You are mad at us. And we hate that feeling more than you hate waiting.

That said, we are not purists. We recommend aftermarket all day for belts, hoses, and filters. And for brands like Moog, Denso, and Bosch? Those are often as good or better than OEM. We will give you options. We will tell you the risks. Then you decide.

But brakes? Steering? Anything that keeps your family safe on a Texas highway? That is OEM territory. No debate.

We wrote a full blog post explaining exactly when we recommend OEM, when we recommend aftermarket, and why trust matters more than a cheap price tag.

Click the link below to read it: https://www.richenryautoservice.com/why-do-you-recommend-oem-parts-when-aftermarket-is-cheaper

Question for you:
If a shop recommended OEM for your brakes, would you trust them or would you ask for the cheaper option?

Happy Donut Day from all of us at Ric Henry’s Auto Service!

If there’s one thing we love almost as much as a smooth-running engine, it’s a fresh, delicious donut. And around here, we know exactly where to get the best ones.

Skip the big chains and buy local! Treat yourself at Campus Donuts & Kolaches located at 3119 Knickerbocker Rd, San Angelo, TX 76904 It’s just a quick drive from our shop, so you’ve got no excuse to miss out on the good stuff.

Our grandbabies are officially donut lovers. Sean goes straight for the Red Sprinkle Donuts (can’t blame him, they’re a work of art), while Luci keeps it classy with a traditional glazed and a side of chocolate milk. Perfect combo, if you ask us.

Now, here’s the real secret: wanna make our day? Like, really make our day? Swing by the shop with a box of donuts from Campus Donuts & Kolaches and hang out with us for a few minutes.

We’d love to see you, hear about your car (or your grandkids), and share a sweet treat together.

Happy Donut Day, San Angelo. Drive safe, buy local, and save us a donut!

Be honest. You’ve thought it. 👀
“How do I know they’re actually doing the work they’re billing me for?”

Yeah, we’ve heard that whispered question in our parking lot. And you know what? Fair question.

So here’s ours for you, San Angelo:
What’s the one thing a shop could do to make you trust them completely?
(We’ll go first: show you the old parts. And the new ones. And send photos. And back it with a 3-year warranty. And pick your car up from your office because we’re nice like that.)

“What exact time will my car be done?”

We have a job. Kids. A life. So do you. And we still cannot give you an exact time. 😬

Why? Read our new blog post (link below). It is honest, sarcastic, and exactly how we run our shop in San Angelo.

But here is the good news: we offer concierge pickup and delivery. Need a loaner? Just ask when you book. We will pick up your car, fix it, and bring it back. You stay at work. You stay with your kids. You keep your life.

Click the link to read why “I don’t know” is the most honest answer you will ever get.

Be honest. Have you ever walked into a shop with a box of Amazon brake pads? 🛑🛒

We love our San Angelo drivers, but let’s settle this once and for all. We just wrote a brutally honest blog post explaining why independent shops (yes, us included) get twitchy when you bring your own parts. Spoiler: it’s not because we want to be difficult. It’s because we want your car to actually stop when you hit the pedal.

Click the link to read: https://www.richenryautoservice.com/why-do-independent-shops-hate-when-you-bring-your-own-parts-whats-the-big-deal

and tell us in the comments: What’s the wildest part you’ve ever tried to bring to a mechanic? We’ll go first. Someone once brought a “lifetime warranty” alternator in a plastic bag. 😳
