Well what do ya know.......this is Grant Spence. Another ex-pat kiwi now living state side, he’s down there in Texas showing them all how to wear gumboots whilst being a cowboy..... He races in the same class as Kiwi-Ant, a gratuitous “Team Kiwi” photo af the end of the race weekend.... His “steed of choice.....Honda CB750”. See why we did there......Steed+cowboy+Texas....😂
Looking forward to pitting with and racing against Grant in the future.

After a mad as thrash......minutes to spare really. We made the race with a bike that was bewildering our crew chief. “It makes no sense!!” We made the grid today, we started the race this time without a push 😄😄 with a desire to turn laps, feed it the beans so high, it was difficult to hold back. We milked it through to the white flag when (absolute legend )Gary Swan came past Kiwi Ant two corners from start of the last lap. Kiwi Ant said “right, buggar this.....the ol’ girl seems to be running great” and out braked Gary into turn one and then pulled the fastest lap of the race to take away second place. All in all, problems arise, troubles are over come and we persevere. Thanks to everyone who lended a hand/advice and support.
We’ll have a “Cheers Big Ears” moment and reflect on the weekend, enjoying all the trials and tribulations and knowing that we didn’t take an ambulance ride and we all went home to the family. Second pic was the labels that crew chief put on the dash..... mind the language ☺️but pretty to the point.

Racing starts 2 hours earlier today than yesterday. That’ll put my race time around 1-1:30. With any luck we can overcome these teething issues with new chassis and fueling we are having and have a competitive race. We had to start from the Hot Pit row yesterday as the bike acted like it was running of fuel(we had that happen once in our vintage racing career,so we double-triple check that now) and eventually died on the grid. With some pushing from grid workers we bump started it and played catch up. We finished 4 in the end, our lap times dictated we would have been further up the front had we had a good start, with our times consistently being 6-8 seconds faster than both 2nd and 3rd places.

However, we showed that even ex-pat Kiwi’s still have the raw determination and willingness to give it our best. Not our best result, but we didn’t leave in the ambulance so we are taking it as a good thing. Anyone who has raced anything understands that “s #%t happens” sometimes, this is compounded when your racing something that is 50years old. We will show up and give it 110% again today.

Pushed the old girl outside to turn on the “tire warmers”.......😂

It was fifty two years ago today - 26th August 1967 - that Southland-born Herbert James 'Burt' Munro rode his legendary self-modified 1920 Indian Scout into the record books across the famed Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, USA.

Burt made the motorcycling world sit up and take notice as he posted a world record for a Class S-A 1000cc motorcycle with an average speed of 184.087mph.

It's a record that still stands today and it brought Burt, Invercargill and Southland to the attention of the world.

52 years later, we are enormously proud to stand beside his Authentic, Original and Legendary motorcycle on display in our store, pay our respects and reflect on his determination, his innovative spirit and his passion for speed.

Good on ya' Burt.
