First time running the new BTR canted valance cathedral port heads and very happy with the results.
These heads are beautiful pieces and overall fit, finish/quality of the heads. The decks are massive, machining is very, very clean.
This car originally came to us a a bolt on LS1 that made around 350whp. The current setup is an LS2 aluminum block based 39x cid 12:1 compression ratio with BTR 400+cid camshaft(236/25x, 636/636 114lsa)
We ran the car a few days ago with the PRC stage 2.5 243s. It made identical power to when we built it last fall, 513whp and 468ft/lbs.
We then swapped just the heads and reused (without any port matching) the Fast intake. It should be noted that port alignment is not great and we are pulling the intake now to address that. But we wanted to get an accurate bolt on change. The old setup had a .045” thick gasket and the new setup we dropped it to a .040. The old heads were a 62cc chamber and the new heads are 61cc.
Results:
Red line - baseline with PRC head
Green line - ran hot BTR CV head
Blue line - Engine cooled BTR CV head
Yellow - ran hot BTR CV head w/bellmout
So straight back to back results (red vs green) were an honest 30whp!! I would have been happy with anything over 20 so I was ecstatic to see 30 wheel.
We will likely be port matching the intake and building a proper 4.5” intake with hopes to make around 560whp na with under 400cid.
