If you have a high school student interested in the trades, PLEASE explore trade school options! A four year university isn't for everyone, and there are a lot of unemployed college graduates out there!
There is a MAJOR, nationwide shortage in mechanics/auto techs, and that is projected to grown by leaps and bounds in the future. The shortage is NOT because the auto industry, the plumbing industry, the electrical industry, the construction industry or any other trade industry offers lower wages/fewer benefits/poor working conditions or any other negative situation. Society has told us for the past generation or so that everyone has to go to "college", and we have somehow changed the perception of trade schools. They are NOT less effective than any other college, they are, in fact, better at preparing a student for a job. A specific, high paying job, with actual, hands on experience! For jobs where there is a MAJOR SHORTAGE of employees, so the opportunities are overflowing!
It's time to bring back the proud, blue collar!
