Massive Paint FAIL! When PPF Takes the Paint With It ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

This is exactly why prep work is the most important part of any paint job! We were removing the protective film from this panel, and the old paint and primer peeled right off in huge chunks. Not ideal, but since we are repainting it anyway, we'll just take it down to the base and do it the right way!

Welcome back to another Tech Tip Tuesday! This week, weโ€™re breaking down why using a sealer is an absolute must especially for custom hot rods and full repaints.

Here is why you shouldn't skip the sealing stage:

Smooths the Surface: Even after prepping with 400 or 600 grit, fine sand scratches remain. Sealer fills those micro-imperfections, giving your base coat a perfectly even canvas.

The Ultimate Barrier: Base coats are solvent-heavy and aggressive. A good sealer acts as a shield, preventing the base from melting into the primer edge and causing that dreaded "ringing" or chemical reaction.

THE PRO TIP: We prefer using an epoxy sealer, but the secret ingredient is patience. Let it sit for about an hour before applying your base coat. Rushing this step is exactly how you trap solvents and end up with wrinkles or solvent pop!

BONUS TIP: Always hit the panel with a tack rag right before you spray to grab any lingering dust or lint.
