Hi, this is Karl Hafen from Zion Motors.
I wanted to share a quick update about the Bluff Street construction project since it’s going to affect a lot of us over the next year.
I was asked to serve on the Community Coordination Team for the project, and I went to the first meeting with UDOT, the design team, Interstate Rock, and several other local business and community members.
I’ll be honest I went in a little worried. Construction on Bluff Street is going to be inconvenient no matter what. But I came away feeling better than I expected.
I was impressed with the people involved and with how much thought has already gone into the project. They seem to understand that Bluff Street is not just a road. It’s where people work, eat, stay, shop, get their cars fixed, and try to get through town every day.
From what I understand so far, work is scheduled to start July 6. Roto-milling is expected around July 13, and storm drain work should begin around July 20. The project is expected to take about 300 days.
The work includes drainage improvements, widening, curb and sidewalk work, resurfacing, raised medians, landscaping, and some turn-lane improvements. It will happen in phases, with the west side first and the east side later.
One thing I was glad to hear is that business access is a major part of the discussion. They talked about giving advance notice before entrance closures and doing what they can to keep driveways open as much as possible.
As part of the CCT, I’ll be attending monthly meetings during the project. The next meeting is July 15. If you have a question or concern you’d like me to ask, send it my way and I’ll do my best to bring it up.
I’ll try to post an update after each monthly meeting, and I may post more often if there is news, a change, or just something useful to share.
This isn’t an official UDOT update just me, Karl, a local business owner on Bluff Street trying to stay involved and help keep people informed.
