Pontiac Catalina Brougham (1971–1975)
The Pontiac Catalina Brougham represented Pontiac's more luxurious interpretation of the traditional full-size American automobile. While Pontiac was famous for performance, the Brougham package emphasized comfort, refinement, and upscale appointments without abandoning the brand's powerful V8 heritage.
The available 455 cubic-inch (7.5-liter) Pontiac V8 delivered approximately 250 net horsepower and around 370 lb-ft of torque in the early 1970s. Coupled with the durable Turbo Hydra-Matic 400, the Catalina provided effortless acceleration and relaxed highway cruising.
Its exterior carried classic Pontiac design language, including the distinctive split grille, quad headlamps, long hood, formal vinyl roof, broad rear quarters, and extensive chrome detailing. The Brougham trim added a more elegant appearance and premium appointments.
Inside, the cabin featured plush Morrokide upholstery, deep carpeting, power seats, power windows and locks, automatic climate control, cruise control, tilt steering, and premium audio options. Its enormous interior provided generous space for both passengers and luggage.
The Catalina Brougham is an interesting example of Pontiac's transition from a performance-oriented identity toward the increasingly luxurious American market of the early 1970s.
The Pontiac Catalina Brougham combined Pontiac's legendary V8 heritage with full-size luxury—creating a comfortable cruiser that still carried the unmistakable character of Pontiac.
