Maybe the steering doesn't feel as tight.

Every generation of 911 tells part of the Porsche story.

The 991 marked another major step forward.

Electric power steering.

Advanced chassis electronics.

COOLING SYSTEMS DON'T GET ENOUGH RESPECT

Porsche cooling systems do a tremendous amount of work.

And depending on the model, there can be a lot more going on than an owner realizes.

Radiators.

Condensers.

Water pumps.

Thermostats.

Expansion tanks.

Coolant pipes.

Hoses.

Fans.

Valves.

Multiple cooling circuits on newer platforms.

A small issue can become a much larger one if it's ignored.

That's why signs of coolant loss, unusual temperatures, smells, or warning messages deserve proper investigation.

Keeping a Porsche cool is part of keeping a Porsche alive.

The goal of a proper Porsche M96/M97 rebuild is not simply to replace rings, bearings, seals, and head gaskets. The goal is to identify what failed, correct the cylinder problem, inspect the supporting systems, replace known weak points, and prepare the engine so it can be assembled, installed, broken in, and maintained successfully.

A PORSCHE SERVICE SHOULD TELL YOU SOMETHING

An oil service shouldn't just result in fresh oil.

It should give us an opportunity to learn about your Porsche.

What do we see underneath?

Are leaks beginning to develop?

How are the suspension components aging?

What does the tire wear tell us?

How are the brakes?

Any coolant residue?

Anything unusual around the drivetrain?

Anything the owner should start planning for?

Our philosophy is simple:

It is very important to know and trust the people you have repairing and servicing your Porsche. We have had a rash of failed convertible top cylinders leaking hydraulic fluid. After notifying the clients we are informed that they were recently repaired. What we found were subpar seals installed. Not all seals are created equal and they all have there limitations when it comes to chemical exposure and pressure.

The first seal in the photo is a factory Porsche seal which is a poor choice for this application. This seal is just like all other oil seals and is a similar design to a crankshaft seal.

The second seal is a poor substitution that we removed today from a cylinder that was recently “rebuilt”. This seal diameter and thickness is not correct and allowed the cylinder to operate for a short time before failing.

The last seal is the seal that we install. It is tested and rated to handle far more than the convertible top cylinders will subject it to. This is a Viton seal which is resistant to breaking down from the hydraulic oil and rated to handle 4 times the operating pressure of the system. You will notice that it is considerably thicker than the previous which allows a firm and tight seal. These are the only seals we will use and they are custom made for us for this application.

Convertible top repair can be expensive but paying twice is far more.
