In 2007 we beat Ford and Shinoda to the punch with this beautiful Boss Mustang build. We used all licensed Ford products and a custom hand striped hood to recreate the legendary Boss Mustang. The dealer sold it for a great profit margin and Shinoda called us asking us not to build any more like it. We had a grabber orange carbon fiber interior in this one. Does anyone know who owns this car now?
Late in 2006 an almost ugly, bone stock grabber orange mustang gt caught my eye. It had no graphics and the cheapest set of wheels available. It was a monstrosity in front of Future Ford of Sacramento Future Ford Sacramento.
I jammed back to shop and Googled it. I saw some of the coolest Mustangs I had ever seen. BOSS 302! Street and race versions blew my mind, from coolness overload.
At this time no one was even talking about a factory release or the BOSS or even Saleen replica. I hit the ground running.
I returned to the dealership a day later with a graphic that I had designed the night before. Like most of time, they agreed and handed me the keys. Straight to the shop we went.
We went to work. Hand masked and painted satin black graphics had an immediate impact on the character of the vehicle. We added a custom painted 3dGT 3dCarbon 4 piece ground effects and louvers. Blacked out factory wing and gas filler panel.
Now the wheels...some have tried to clown the chrome wheels...BUT. Listen up, in 2006 black wheels were just starting to get popular again and were not as available as they are today. They were on back order :(
Back order? Back order does not stop Red*Star from meeting a deadline. I looked carefully at the Magnum 500s that were popular at the time (1970). Now in (2006) 20"s are the norm. Now look at the wheels and tell me these are not the wheel for this car. I'd have liked to see a little black myself, but time and budget dictate every build.
I made it to the dealership the Friday before the big weekend. A meeting was just getting out, and it was big wigs, the suits. The car got much attention and I basked in the reverence, it felt great. I had the only one in existence, or so it seemed. The car sold, the dealer and I both earned a buck. I never received one service call to repair or replace any of our parts or work.
I get two calls within the month, one from Ford (not the dealership) and one from Shinoda in Florida. They both loved the car, but they both claimed ownership of "BOSS" and asked that I not include "BOSS" in any more of my appearance packages on a brand new car. They encouraged me to install Ford licensed "BOSS" Hockey stick and "C" stripes like crazy on customer vehicles ;)
