Amos Johnson, Dennis Shaw, Jim Downing, Lyn St. James, and actor James Brolin ran a 1979 AMC Spirit AMX, on street tires, to a 1st and 2nd in class at the 1979 Nürburgring 24 Hour race.

The Effort: Partnering with BFGoodrich Tires, AMC and Team Highball shipped two race-prepped 1979 Spirit AMX hatchbacks to Germany.

The Specs: They featured 5.0-liter (304 ci) V8 engines, four-speed manual transmissions, stiffer suspensions, and aggressive spoilers.

The Twist: To prove the durability of consumer products, they competed on standard BFGoodrich Radial T/A street tires.

The Result: Both cars finished, placing 1st and 2nd in their class and 25th and 42nd overall out of a massive 120-car field

1988 Ride Pontiac Ride commercial. Can it be more 80s? Break out your fingerless gloves, aquanet, leather jacket and get in yrou Grand Am.
Song written by the same ad guy that wrote the "Make a Run for the Border" Taco Bell jingle. Sung by Alannah Myles, who would win a Grammy in 1991 for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance with "Black Velvet,". The commercial seemed to work as Pontiac sale went up in 1988.
