This is the fourth and final post for the ’66 Chevy Nova station wagon. The preparation really pays off because everything went together really really nice and easy. After everything it took to get the car where is, the actual headliner installation for this car was the easiest part of the whole project. I’m very pleased at how everything laid out nice, straight and smooth. The windows went in nicely also. The client likes how he can wash the car without water getting inside. I can tell you he was very pleased with everything. Thank you so much for reading all these posts. There certainly will be more to come on different vehicles.

This is the third post for the ‘66 Chevy Nova station wagon. What has been done is fitting the trim around the headliner and using closed cell foam (that’s the white foam that you see to fill in where the structure on the car is crooked). it’s an upholsters body filler. Next the quarter panel windows. The windows have been cut previously to their new size. That was part of the modifications to make it a two door wagon. We purchased original nova quarter window seals I cut and splice down to size. We had some original equipment flanges we were able to use for mounting the bottom of the windows. I manufactured some new flanges for the top. All this will be hidden under the interior trim. I made new interior trim pieces for above the quarter windows. With all this test fitted, next you will see some painting needed to be done before final assembly. Final assembly will be the next post. I hope you check it out!

This is the second post for the ‘66 Chevy Nova station wagon headliner project. Since then we have done the following: Straighten the crossmembers. Seam-seal the Crossmembers. Dry-fit the headliner bows, straighten the old ones and manufacture new bows where needed. Fabricate rear dome, light mount and run wiring. Install sounding insulation. Straighten door pinch-welds and manufacture interior trim. Cut and sew new Headliner and Visors. Did you notice how many times I had to mention the word straighten? I left a lot unsaid after all this is a post not a novel. I can’t stress how important it is for the sheet metal fabricator to at least finish the inner structure to the standard that the factory did. (Not a very high standard in most cases) The lack of attention to detail and the carelessness of how the inner structure was left has made the job of prepping for this headliner, very labor-intensive. When it is left to the Auto Trimmer/Upholsterer the project has already been body filled and primered, and in most cases painted. I don’t have the luxury of cutting things out and working them on the bench or putting new pieces in, welding and cutting in most cases are out of the question! When taking on projects like this, my advice is, have a clear plan on how you’re going to get from point “A” all the way to point “Z”. Leave yourself a good budget for the Auto Trimmer/Upholsterer. We are the guys at the very end of the project, and have to deal with anything lacking when we get it! I have nothing against fabricators and body men and women. I love working with all my trades! What irritates me are the hacks, and the lack of attention to detail! Kicking the can down the road ruins a project! The irritation I’m sure is coming through in my text here! If you are a fabricator/bodyman and that offends you, it shouldn’t! I should be preaching to the choir here! If I’m not, look within yourself and possibly rethink your career! We are nearly finished with all the preparation to install the headliner. All this preparation is crucial if the end product is to meet our standards. Soon the 3rd installment, which will probably be with everything completed. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

This is the second post for the ‘66 Chevy Nova station wagon headliner project. We left off the last post with the rust treatment. I don’t know if you’ve noticed how many times I had to mention the word straighten, I left a lot unsaid because after all this is a post not a novel. When it is left to the Auto Trimmer/Upholsterer the project has already been body filled and primered, and in most cases painted. Parts that can get damaged by heat are already installed, so I don’t have the luxury of cutting things out and working them on the bench or putting new pieces in because welding and cutting in most cases are out of the question! If you have been following my posts, you know I have been repeating how big the SEMA show is. I find out today there is another building across the street I have completely missed. Today I went over some new territory there. I am so glad I didn’t miss this building. That would have been maddening to find out after the show is over! Crisis averted! We also were able to watch the filming of the “Battle Of The Builders” custom car building competition, get thinned down to four builders. From those four the winner will be announced tomorrow. The show should air on TV in the early part of 2024. My guess is the green 1960 Buick Invicta will be the winner! We will see!

Another great day at SEMA. I thought I covered a lot of ground yesterday. I can’t say enough about how big this show is! Today I met a lot more Vendors related to auto trim and upholstery. I also was in the right place at the right at the right time to witness the filming and announcement of the final twelve contenders of the “Battle Of The Builders” custom car builder competition. I witnessed a lot of rubber burning off of the tires at the Hoonigan burnout and drifting show. I also saw some qualifying for an autocross event tomorrow.

The SEMA show really lives up to it’s hype! There is just too much to post right now. It’s really overwhelming. Here are a couple of stand-out just because I really like them seeing them on tv and pictures. They are far more impressive in real life!! Kindig Designs production corvettes and Trans-am Worldwides modern Chevells! Not to take away from all the other stuff I saw today! It's trully mindblowing!
