Sometimes the cheapest repair becomes the most expensive one.

This is the result of an improper hybrid battery repair: melted connectors, burned wiring and a damaged battery ECU.

YouTube University is free. Replacing everything it helped destroy is not. 😅

High-voltage systems require proper diagnostics, equipment and experience. Don’t gamble with your car or your safety.

Replacement 2 faulty blocks of hybrid battery on 2012 Toyota Highlander. The car has 151k miles but has been sitting for a while and this why 1 block was fully dead and 1 of weak condition.

Three weeks. Countless hours. One very stubborn Smart.

This 2015 Smart Electric Drive arrived with a deeply discharged HV battery. Some cells were below 1.0V, even though their nominal voltage is 3.7V. Since these cells are considered fully discharged at around 3.0V, manufacturers strongly advise against attempting to recover batteries in this condition.

But… who are we not to try? 😄

After three weeks of careful recovery work, extensive testing, purchasing another battery pack to transplant the BMS (our original one permanently locked itself after fault code P18051C), and a lot of patience…

It came back to life.

The car is running and driving again. ⚡🔋

Not every battery can be saved, but sometimes persistence beats the odds.

Replacement 2010 Nissan Altima battery with 210k miles.
The battery was replaced in 2024 with an aftermarket battery and lasted less than 2 years.

Replacement aftermarket hybrid battery on a 2017 Toyota Camry with 161k miles. If the aftermarket battery has a fault, rebuilding doesn’t make sense; a more reliable option is to replace whole battery.

It previously had an aftermarket battery, but rebuilding those packs usually isn’t worth it due to their shorter lifespan. Installed a refurbished OEM battery pack with an expected service life of 4-5 more years.

Usually, these batteries have a long life, but sometimes something goes wrong, and the reason for replacement is just one fault block.
