It is with very sad news that I found out this morning that my long time associate and friend of more than 40 years, Frank Moyer, passed away from a stroke August 02, 2024. He was 68 years old. Frank loved working on the woodies with me and put his heart and soul into each boat. He especially enjoyed the sanding, fairing, staining and varnishing aspects of wood boat restoration. He will be missed.

In case you have not heard. Sacramento Boat Repair at Classic Craft and Keaton Boats will be closing our doors. The building was sold last October and I am now in the process of liquidating and eventually retiring. I may continue to do small gel repairs in my retirement and build swim platforms, but that is to be determined in the future. I will be posting items to be sold onto my page and to Facebook Market Place.
After building and repairing/restoring boats for 56 years I believe that I have earned a rest.
Thank you for all the years of support.

Well after 56 years of boat building, repairing and restorations I have decided to retire and close my shop. I will be liquidating most of the merchandise and tools. I plan on continuing to do minor gel coat repairs and parts manufacture as well as custom small boat building out of my home.
My crew and I thank you for all your support over these past 56 years.

This classic Chris Craft boat is a 1952 27′ semi-enclosed cruiser that has 2 Chevy 350, V-8 engines, a forward V bunk, port-a-potty, partial galley (sink & fridge) and a trailer. This boat started her life in southern CA, handily taking her owners from Newport Harbor to Catalina Island. By the early 90’s she was in need of a new owner and some TLC. Purchased by well known restorer, Paul Mehus, in 1992 and restored from bow to stern, she was named “Viking” and launched on Lake Tahoe in 1994. In the late 90’s, Viking was purchased by neighbors and good friends, Steve & Cheryl Caplan. She has been maintained meticulously over the years as well as being stored in climate controlled facilities each winter. Viking is smooth on the water, easy to trail, and a very fun family boat and a great cocktail boat! She has served us well. We’ve moved from Lake Tahoe, so it’s time for another owner. She is currently at Carnelian Bay, Lake Tahoe. Contact: Steve Caplan at 408-981-6996 or [email protected].
I received this email that Steve Caplan will be selling his beloved Viking.
