The first 10 minutes after an accident matter more than people think. Not just for safety. For everything that comes after.

Start Here:
✅ Check for injuries first.
✅ Move to a safe location if you can.
✅ Call police if needed.

Then, document everything:
✅ Take photos of all vehicles, damage, plates, and the full scene
✅ Get the other driver's license, registration, and insurance information
✅ If there are witnesses, get their contact info
✅ Don’t admit fault at the scene. Just stick to the facts.

One thing most people miss: Take a second and write down what happened while it’s still fresh.

You also don’t have to decide anything about repairs right away, including where your car goes. Your insurance company will make a recommendation, but the choice is always yours.

Do you have a mental checklist for this, or are you figuring it out in the moment?

Save this so you have it when you need it.

A minor Tesla fender bender shouldn’t sideline you for weeks. The real delay isn’t the damage—it’s waiting for your turn in a crowded shop. Most places leave your car sitting before repairs even start. That’s the silent time killer.

At Pro Autobody of Rye, we cut the wait. We track every part, schedule repairs precisely, and start work when you expect—not a week later. Own your schedule. If you’re calling around, ask any shop: When does repair actually begin? That answer tells you everything.

Ready to move forward? We can get your Tesla in the shop this week. Free estimates, real timelines. Call (914) 967-3396 or visit proautobodyofrye.com.

Every 5-star review is a reminder of why we do what we do. Thank you, Phil, for trusting Pro Autobody of Rye with your door repair:
I took my CX five in for repair after someone backed into me in the Costco parking lot. Angel was super helpful from the minute. I walked in the door, very friendly and accommodating. I wanted to take my car on a driving trip and didn’t want to leave it, until after I got back, so Angel pre-ordered the parts and everything was pretty much waiting for me when I got back

My car looks great-like it never happened!!
My car was returned to me clean and perfectly repaired. Pro Auto Body was on the list of Geico approved repair shops, but I would take any vehicle that I owned to Angel and his shop.

Most local collision damage is not dramatic.

It is the everyday stuff.

A bumper tap on I-95.
A tight merge on the Hutch.
A mirror clip in town.
A parking lot scrape in Rye.
A side-swipe near school pickup.
A low-speed hit that looked annoying, not serious.

That kind of damage is easy to minimize.

But before you shrug it off, check the basics:

Are the panel gaps even?
Do the lights work?
Is the bumper sitting correctly?
Are there cracks in the paint?
Is the mirror loose?
Did any warning lights appear?
Does the door, hood, or trunk close differently?
Is there glass damage spreading?

Westchester and Fairfield County roads are busy, tight, and unforgiving. Small impacts happen fast.

Ignoring them is where bigger problems start.

If the gap changed, something moved.

That is the simple version.

After an impact, look at the space around the door, hood, trunk, bumper, and fender. If one side suddenly looks tighter, wider, higher, lower, or just slightly off, do not ignore it.

Uneven panel gaps can point to more than cosmetic damage.

They can mean a bracket shifted.
A hinge moved.
A mounting point changed.
A panel is not sitting correctly.
A seal may not close the way it should.
Something underneath may need inspection.

This is why “the door still opens” is not the same as “the repair is fine.”

Panel alignment tells a story after a collision.

A good shop knows how to read it before the small problem becomes your problem every time you drive.

Not every dent needs paint.

But not every dent is a good candidate for paintless dent repair either.

PDR may be an option when the paint is still intact, the metal is not stretched too far, the dent is accessible from behind, and the damage is not sitting on a sharp crease or difficult bodyline.

That is why the right answer starts with an inspection.

A small door ding may be perfect for PDR.
A sharp crease may not be.
A dent with cracked paint usually needs a different repair.
A dent near an edge or bodyline may be more complicated than it looks.

The mistake is assuming every dent has the same solution.

The smarter move is asking what method protects the panel, the paint, and the value of the car.

If you have a dent and the paint is still intact, ask whether PDR is possible before assuming the whole panel needs to be refinished.

A proper repair is not “how we usually do it.”

It is what the vehicle requires.

That difference matters.

Modern vehicles are built with specific materials, attachment points, sensors, panels, adhesives, corrosion protection, and repair procedures. A repair that worked on an older car may not be right for a newer one.

That is why OEM repair standards matter.

They help determine what needs to be repaired, what needs to be replaced, where the vehicle can be safely worked on, and how the finished repair should perform.

The wrong shortcut can still look good when you pick the car up.

The problem shows up later.

In panel fit.
In paint failure.
In wind noise.
In warning lights.
In safety systems.
In resale value.

A good repair does not start with habit.

It starts with the correct procedure.

Before you wait three weeks for Tesla body repair, ask one question:

Is the damage nonstructural?

That answer can change your timeline.

Not every Tesla repair needs to sit in a long backlog. Damage to bumpers, panels, doors, and paint may fall into nonstructural repair, which means you may have a faster option than waiting around for an appointment that keeps moving.

Pro Autobody of Rye is recognized by Tesla for nonstructural repairs, including bumpers, panels, doors, and paint refinishing.

We can often get your Tesla scheduled this week, starting with a free initial estimate.

So before you commit to a long wait, get a clear answer.

If the repair is nonstructural, you may not need to lose weeks.

White paint sounds simple until you try to match it.

So does silver.
So does gray.
So does pearl.

These are some of the colors where bad repair work shows fast.

Why? Because the color changes depending on light, angle, metallic flake, pearl layers, panel shape, and how the original finish has aged.

A paint code gets you started. It does not guarantee the repair disappears.

That is why a proper refinish takes testing, adjustment, blending, and judgment. The goal is not to match the color under one shop light. The goal is to make it look right in daylight, shade, parking lots, driveways, and every angle you see walking up to the car.

You should not notice the repair every time the sun hits the panel.

Good paint work disappears.

Bad paint work follows you around.

If your insurance company recommends a body shop, do not panic.

Just do not say yes without asking a few questions.

Ask how soon the shop can actually start the repair.
Ask whether they follow the proper repair procedures for your vehicle.
Ask whether they handle supplements if hidden damage is found.
Ask what happens if the estimate changes after teardown.
Ask whether they will explain the repair clearly before work begins.
Ask if you are choosing the shop because it is right for your car, or because it is convenient for the claim.

That last question matters.

An insurance-recommended shop may be fine. But recommended does not automatically mean best for your vehicle, your timeline, or your repair.

Your car is the one being repaired. You are the one who has to drive it afterward.

Choose the shop that gives you confidence, not just the shop that gets handed to you first.
