For us, this has become more than just a bad odor Jennifer is getting physically sick when the fumes are bad.

It's 2026. There has to be a way to make this better for our beautiful city. ❤️

TOO SMELLY? Some in Russellville say the scent coming from a local plant has become overwhelming, while others say it’s not the company’s fault the city expanded to it.

Premium Protein Products has been in Russellville for years, turning animal remains into things like chicken feed. However, some say the smell coming from it makes parts of the city unbearable, particularly on hot, windy days.

These examples include a woman who works nearby and says the fumes contribute to symptoms of her Mast Cell Activation Syndrome multiple times a week, and a worker at nearby Atwoods Ranch & Home who says he couldn’t imagine living in the area.

However, some online- as well as the company themselves- have said that the company has been in their current location for years, and it’s not their fault the city has continued to expand in their direction. They also highlights the jobs the plant creates for Russellville.

One city councilman tells me he’s concerned with the issue, but doesn’t want to shut the plant down- he just wants them to minimize the smell, and claims they have the tools to do it.

“While local industrial facilities including byproduct rendering plants provide jobs, recurring odor issues remain a matter of public concern,” Mayor Fred Teague said.
