How many of you boondock? Boondocking is popular and exciting if you know what is involved and required of you and your RV. Many people ask if the RV is set up for boondocking. The quick answer is, yes, every RV is set up for boondocking. But, do you know what boondocking is?
Boondocking is camping with no electricity, water or sewer hookups. Every RV can be used for boondocking but are you prepared? That means no refrigerator, no AC, no heat. And, you must conserve your battery use for limited lighting and the water pump. The refrigerator even on DC or propane can drain the battery to nothing in a day or so. The RV battery's purpose isn't to run all of the appliances in the RV. It's really only designed for limited use of lights. While some RVs have a refrigerator that will run on AC, DC, or propane, it can quickly drain the battery, eve on propane.
So, if you plan on going to an RV campsite with no electricity, water or sewer connection, be prepared to rough it, take a cooler for food, open the windows in the summer, and take extra blankets in the winter. Or, take a generator that will run the refrigerator, AC, heater, and the other comfort amenities.
