It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to a true pillar of our community, Mike Moran. To many, he was a "Driving Instruction Specialist, and business owner of ShiftAbove2,now closed” but to those who knew him, he was so much more.

Mike dedicated his life to the belief that everyone deserves the freedom and independence that comes with driving, regardless of their challenges. He was a pioneer in adaptive driving, creating programs for individuals with autism, ADHD, and physical disabilities, always ensuring his services were accessible and fair. He never saw "limitations"—he saw potential.

Whether he was teaching a nervous teenager, helping a senior driver regain confidence, or training someone with complex developmental needs, Mike approached every student with the same patience, expertise, and unwavering kindness. He didn't just teach people how to operate a vehicle; he taught them how to navigate the world safely and with confidence.

Mike’s legacy lives on in every student he empowered and every family he supported. He was a rare talent, a dedicated educator, and a compassionate friend. The roads of New Jersey—and the lives of those he touched—are safer and brighter because of him.

Rest in peace, Mike. You will be deeply missed.

It was my first time to drive a car and I was very nervous. I felt like road test would be something I have to try tons of times before I could ever make it. With totally no clue where to start with, I searched online and was fortunate to locate Mike at Shift Above 2, who is very professional and knowledgeable at what he is doing. He showed me all the techniques and key points for the road test, and gradually helped me build the comfort and confidence to ‘control’ a car. With no previous experience on driving, I always forgot or misunderstood what he mentioned, but he patiently repeated for me many times until I finally got the point. He documented my progress for every class to ensure I can reach the goal within tight timeline. Today, I was very excited to pass the road test on my first try! Really appreciate your help!!
