From Fabrication to Installation: A 5-Foot-Diameter FRP Solution

McGill Environmental Systems provides turnkey organic waste management and composting solutions, and its Fairless Hills, PA facility is undergoing a major expansion of its odor control system.

For Phase 1, FRP Solutions by Monoxivent fabricated and supplied the complete FRP duct system for a new biofilter field, including massive 5-foot-diameter, factory-manifolded, corrosion-resistant FRP duct designed to withstand the demanding environment of a composting operation.

And we didn’t just fabricate it—we helped put it in place. The FRP duct was installed by highly skilled Union sheet metal workers from Crawford Company, the parent company of Monoxivent.

Phase 2 will add additional interior FRP ductwork and an ammonia scrubber, further enhancing odor control and helping make McGill’s Fairless Hills operation a flagship, neighbor-friendly regional composting facility.

From design and fabrication to field installation, it’s another great example of the capabilities and craftsmanship behind the Crawford Company family of businesses.

Last week, Monoxivent, along with R.B. Akins Byron Hughes, visited Metropolitan Contractors to provide specialized training for an Exhaust Rail installation at Tinker Air Force Base. The purpose of the visit was to demonstrate the proper installation of the Technorail system to ensure maximum performance and long-term system efficiency.

Because of the unique requirements of the project, proper installation techniques are essential to the long-term reliability and effectiveness of the exhaust system. Monoxivent team members Jim Wischhusen and Mitch Michaelis provided hands-on training which covered key aspects of a successful Technorail installation, including planning the Exhaust Rail layout for optimal proficiency, properly installing secure hanging brackets, and following safe installation practices throughout the project.

The training session was both informative and productive, providing the on-site crew with the practical knowledge and confidence needed to complete a successful installation while ensuring the system performs as designed for years to come.

Monoxivent’s team recently visited the Denver Federal Center to provide specialized installation training for a laboratory area retrofit. Jim Wischhusen, Jon McCoy, and Mitch Michaelis traveled to the facility to offer direct technical expertise to the contractors handling the installation of our corrosion-resistant FRP ductwork.

The hands-on training session was designed to give the crew the practical skills required to ensure a lasting installation done with confidence. Monoxivent’s Jim Wischhusen provided step-by-step instruction on how to correctly perform FRP wet lay-up joints to ensure airtight, reliable seams throughout the system. Additionally, the training focused on how to effectively plan out an FRP installation around existing building utilities. The field crew did an excellent job adopting the techniques, ensuring that a safe and successful system installation is well underway.

Last week, Monoxivent visited Peterson Space Force Base alongside Acco Engineered Systems to collaborate on a specialized ventilation project. The focus of the visit was to demonstrate proper wet lay-up joint installation and safety procedures for the Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) ductwork installed within a designated battery charging area.

Because battery charging environments release corrosive fumes, correct installation techniques are necessary for the long-term performance of the ventilation system. Monoxivent team members Jim Wischhusen, Jon McCoy, and Mitch Michaelis traveled to the base to guide the installation crew through each phase of the process. The hands-on instructional training covered how to effectively plan out a FRP installation to optimize efficiency, how to properly execute reliable wet lay-up joints, and how to do it all in a safe manner. It was a productive session, and the demonstration provided the on-site crew with the practical knowledge needed for a successful installation.
