EDSEL TECHNICAL ELEMENTS will be Center Stage in Roanoke!

Technical knowledge, hands-on learning and good old-fashioned Edsel know-how will take center stage at the EOC Eastern National Meet in Roanoke! We’re especially pleased to announce that TELETOUCH GURU Mike Brogan will be joining us as a special guest for the meet. Mike has become one of the go-to authorities on Edsel’s fascinating—and sometimes temperamental—Teletouch transmission control system. His experience speaks for itself: Mike has refurbished more than 700 Teletouch Shift Motors! During the meet, he’ll present a special seminar devoted to all things Teletouch, giving members an opportunity to better understand how the system operates, what commonly goes wrong, and what can be done to keep it functioning properly. Whether you’ve owned a Teletouch-equipped Edsel for decades or have always wondered exactly what is happening when you push those buttons in the center of the steering wheel, this promises to be one seminar you won’t want to miss.

We’re also planning to put a greater emphasis on technical seminars and mechanical topics throughout the Roanoke meet. One of the unique resources available to us is the Garage at Edsel Archives, which includes a large mechanical work area complete with an automotive lift. We plan to make use of that space by offering a limited number of opportunities for members to bring an Edsel over to the Garage and put it on the lift. This won’t be a full-service repair shop, but rather a chance to get underneath a car, take a closer look at a particular concern and discuss what may be happening with fellow Edsel owners who have years of hands-on experience. Sometimes simply being able to get a car in the air and have several knowledgeable sets of eyes looking at it can answer questions that have been lingering for years.

That’s exactly the spirit we want these technical portions of the Eastern National Meet to capture: Edsel owners helping Edsel owners. Our cars are now approaching seven decades old, and preserving the mechanical knowledge required to maintain them is every bit as important as preserving the cars themselves. The Roanoke meet will give longtime experts a chance to share what they’ve learned while giving newer owners an opportunity to ask questions, see these systems up close and gain greater confidence in maintaining their own Edsels. Between Mike Brogan’s special Teletouch seminar, additional mechanical discussions and the hands-on opportunities at the Garage at Edsel Archives, Roanoke won’t just be a place to show our Edsels—it will be a place to learn more about them, understand them and help keep them on the road for generations to come.

Plus special guest speaker RONNIE PENNEMPEDE who’s father was the Edsel Dealer in Morristown, NJ will be joining us as he shares his EDSEL memories — and salesman shpeal with us!

This is an event you don’t want to miss… and it’s not too late to join us! All meet information in photos herewith…

- Consider these elements if you’ve never attended an Annual EDSEL MEET... Here's some top reasons why you should---- and what you can find in person that you CANNOT get through phones and computers...

1) Where else can you find a couple of hundred folks who share your love of such an overall unloved automobile all in one place? They "get" what you do about the car and it is interesting just to hear and compare stories about the background of how each person came into the hobby or how they learned about the Edsel or they obtained their first car... it is indeed an EARLY EDSEL CHRISTMAS!

2) With the meets rotating to different destinations each year, you can often mix in Edsel-dom with visiting an area of the country you may not have previously seen or would ever visit if it weren't for Edsel Mecca that week!

3) The link of both the history of and the mechanics of our cars will only be carried forward by those of us who continue to learn--- and share with others directly--- our knowledge. That goes for the history of the Edsel as well! While a lot of this can certainly be conveyed via online outlets in our modern age, there's no better way to get instantaneous feedback, shared thoughts and differences others may have learned than by being right there in the room--- or parking lot--- with many others! We’ve seen club members fix mechanical issues for other members on the spot... Even changing out a trunk deck lid and supports... and putting a rebuilt engine back in a car ON THE LOT! We’ve had attendees find out a complete history of their Edsel they didn’t know because an attendee knew the car thirty years ago!

4) The history of our hobby is as unique and colorful as is the history of our cars. In order to maintain a healthy club and a vital support system in an organized fashion beyond the internet, one of the key components of the "heart beat" of those are the Annual Meets. This may not seem like a huge component- but think about it- do any of us want to look to a future where only online forums and Facebook groups are where we share our passion for our cars?

5) Where else can you stay up until all hours of the night sitting surrounded by a whole parking lot of Edsels talking about everything you can imagine about Edsels while having a b**r or three?

6) Imagine a room with hundreds of items lined around it- everything from odd parts to medallions to photos to model cars to anything you can possibly imagine EDSEL RELATED up for AUCTION- it is your own live inperson EDSEL eBAY!!

7) It is as much about the PEOPLE as it is about the Edsel. We are a unique breed and once the Edsel bug bites, rarely does it ever completely fade away. Many started attending Edsel meets as kids and young adults. To this day, we stay in touch with family members of former Edsel Club Members as much as we do family members of former Edsel dealers... remembering many folks long since passed who were kind in the formative years of Edsel interest now holding those memories close. Come make your own memories!

Many of us who have attended for years--- can count many a friend made whether it was in Indianapolis or Keizer - Boise or Dearborn - Harrisburg or Dayton ... ROANOKE will certainly yield the same...

Clear that calendar and head to VIRGINIA in September… You'll wonder why you never did so sooner once you do attend!
