Just a heads up if you’re navigating the ICW this weekend!
🚢 Boating Safety Update for the NJICW! 🌊
Hello mariners! As you head out to enjoy the water, we want to share a quick navigation reminder for the New Jersey Intracoastal Waterway (NJICW).
Due to the heavy ice this past winter, some of our regular structural aids to navigation were damaged. We’ve placed floating buoys to mark these locations, but keep in mind that parts of the old structures may still be just beneath the surface nearby.
To help keep your trip smooth and safe, we highly recommend keeping the following best practices in mind:
🔹 Give Buoys a Wide Berth: Always pass aids to navigation on the correct side, but be sure to leave plenty of room between your vessel and the buoy. Buoys often mark the very edge of the channel or sit close to shoaling and underwater obstacles.
🔹 Navigate with Care: If you’re exploring a new area or are unsure of the local sea floor conditions, take it slow and exercise extra caution.
Remember, safe navigation is always the responsibility of the vessel operator. Have a great day on the water, stay alert, and boat safely! ⚓
