Summer is just around the corner! But before you decide to pack your bags, and hit the road...Kyle's Automotive recommends a few inspections you should check on your car before you head out:

-Check your BREAKS!
-Check your BATTERY!
*Battery connections should be clean, tight and corrosion free.
-Check your FILTERS and FLUID!
*This includes: engine oil, power steering, brake and transmission fluid and don't forget your windshield fluid & antifreeze/coolant!
-Check HOSES and BELTS!
*Yes, with time these do become cracked, brittle, frayed and loose & can be very critical.
-Check TIRES.
*Underinflated tires REDUCE your fuel economy.

If you have any questions or concerns about your car, contact Kyle's Automotive at 804.329.1119.

We want everybody to have a fun summer, but importantly we want to make YOUR JOURNEY SAFER. (As well as stress free one)

Hey Everybody! Just heard about the "big snow storm" for this mid-week. However, I still see that everybody is driving around with the salt & sand mixture on their cars! Even though the salt and sand is a huge convenience for us, it has a HUGE DRAWBACK. It causes major body & undercarriage damage. Take the time today & head to the car wash or go grab some waterproof gloves and do it at your home. (High of 56 today!) STOP letting the salt eat away at your car! Hint - Very important to get underneath your car, wheel wells, and behind the finders...Any where the salty sludge splashed onto your car!

**NEW YEAR, NEW YOU!** But, have you ever made a new year resolutions about caring for YOUR CAR? Think about it, your car gets you to point A to point B everyday & if you're not taking care of it, it just may leave you hanging!

Here are 5 simple things you can do to keep your car running throughout the year of 2014:

1. Schedule a check-up for your car!
Just like yourself, you schedule a yearly or 6 month check up for your health, even if you think your the healthiest person or nothing is wrong with you. But we all know diagnosing problems earlier, helps you in the long run. Why not do the same for your car?

2. Keep your car clean!
This is an easy, & free thing you can do for your car. Excess dirt and grim can wear down upholstery and carpets. Keeping your car tidy can make you *aware* of problems, before they get worse.

3.Check your tires and wheels!
If your tires are worn unevenly or your wheels are unbalanced, vibration can cause excessive stress on suspension components which can cost your extra trips to your mechanic $$ & This will happen if you continue to ignore the problem. So, AVOID THIS by checking the tread on your tires are wearing evenly.

4. Keep up with your car's fluid changes!
I can't stress about how IMPORTANT this is. When you check your vehicle's fluid, this impacts the longevity of your car. I HIGHLY recommend that you mark one day on your calendar each month to make sure ALL of your fluids are topped off. This is QUICK, EASY, and can SAVE YOU SOME SERIOUS REPAIR DOLLARS down the road. BUT remember to change those fluids when your service manual require it.

5. Address your car's minor problems early!
It's so easy to hear strange noises coming for your vehicle and wish that it will go away soon. But unfortunately, wishing it to go away isn't going to help you in the long run. Don't put off minor maintenance or easy repair work. IF YOU DO, this is going to lead to larger problems problems and larger repair bills.

Cooling system failure is the number one cause of vehicle BREAKDOWNS. Because there are often *NO* visible warning signs of deterioration, radiator and cooling system maintenance service is frequently overlooked by vehicle owners.

Your engine is ((constantly)) burning fuel and therefore gets very hot. In fact, the temperatures inside the combustion chamber may reach 4,500°....Phew, that's hot!

It is the job of the cooling system to carry this potentially harmful heat away from the engine to the outside air. To do this, a coolant mixture of water and antifreeze is circulated through the engine block. The coolant absorbs heat from the engine and is pumped by the water pump through hoses to the radiator. Once the radiator transfers the heat from the engine to the outside air, the coolant circulates back to the engine and the cycle begins again.

To keep this important system working properly, vehicle manufacturers recommend that this system be serviced at specified time or mileage intervals. Over time, the rust inhibitors and additives in the coolant may lose their anti-corrosive properties leaving particles and debris to build up within the system. These contaminants can block passages within the radiator and reduce its ability to keep the engine running at the optimal temperature

**Ask yourself, when was the last time you changed your air filter in your car?**

Your air filter is what protects your engine from ingesting all the dust, dirt and crap in the air. If it's doing its job well...it will clog up [[much like the bag of a vacuum cleaner.]] Once it clogs up, your engine has a harder time sucking air through it.

To compensate for the reduced airflow, the engine management system will richen up the mixture, USING MORE GASOLINE to keep the engine running smoothly.

**Replacing your air filter once a year WILL guarantee you BETTER GAS MILEAGE ((AKA, SAVING YOU $$ IN THE LONG RUN))
