Yesterday was the Bulls’ final game of the season.
At the beginning of the year, a lot of these boys barely knew where to stand on the field. Balls would roll through the infield and everybody would chase it at once. The outfield looked like a group of kids wandering through a park.
Yesterday was different.
You saw boys in “baseball ready” stance before the pitch was even thrown. You heard them shouting to each other across the field. When the ball got past the second baseman, there was already another player backing him up. They attacked the ball like they couldn’t wait to get to it.
But the coolest part wasn’t baseball.
It was watching a group of young boys become a team.
By the end of the season, everybody knew everybody’s name. They learned how to work together, how to encourage each other, how to handle mistakes, and how to keep going after failure. After the game ended, the boys gathered at the playground for a pizza party sponsored by Auto Rescue and just played together like old friends. Even some of the players from the other team stayed and joined in on the fun!
That doesn’t happen by accident.
The coaches did an incredible job this season finding the balance between structure, discipline, learning, and FUN. These boys showed up, practiced hard, ran drills, sharpened their skills, and learned the strategy behind the game… but what they’ll remember most is that baseball became something they loved.
