This is what community is all about right here.

Proud of these boys, these coaches, and our Auto Rescue family for supporting something bigger than baseball. The lessons learned on these fields carry far beyond the game.

Some breakdowns are stressful.

Some become part of the story.

Bimmer Rescue was proud to sponsor this year’s Southeast Sharkfest - E24/E31/E9 Fans Unite!!!, a gathering of classic BMWs from all around the eastern seaboard. These cars are known as “sharks” because of their aggressive nose profile and unmistakable styling.

Owners came to Richmond to enjoy the cars, cruise Route 5 and spend the weekend surrounded by other enthusiasts who love these machines as much as we do.

Then came the call.

A beautiful 1972 BMW 3.0CS had broken down on the side of the road in Charles City after suddenly losing power and dying.

Bimmer Rescue owner Patrick McHugh arrived on scene and started troubleshooting roadside. The engine had strong spark and would briefly fire, then die again. The driver stated that when it died it was not a "hard cut" but a gradual loss of power, leading to fuel issues.

After about 15 minutes the culprit was found. The original mechanical fuel pump had been replaced years ago with an electric pump. Power was applied directly to the pump…

Nothing.

One of the other drivers handed over a screwdriver and with a good smack to the side of the pump while power was applied…

It came alive.

For about a minute.

A tow truck was dispatched and a new pump was ordered before the car even arrived at the shop. The part beat the car there!

Once the 3.0CS arrived, the new pump was installed, electrical connections were cleaned up and the car was back on the road in time for the show the next morning.

That’s what this hobby is really about.

Cars.
The People that share their passions.
Problem solving.
Stories.
And helping keep these classics alive another day.

42 years apart

A 1981 BMW 528i and a 2023 BMW M4 parked side by side at Bimmer Rescue

The 528i was imagined, designed and built in a world without computers. No CAD, no internet, no giant digital screens, just designers, engineers, drafting tables, slide rules and instinct.

The M4 represents the opposite end of the spectrum. Computer aided design, integrated technology, advanced driver systems and unbelievable performance.

Mechanically, there is only ONE part from the 528i that fits the M4... The tire valve stem cap.

Yet somehow, hop behind the wheel of both cars and you realize they still share the same soul.

The classic 528i feels raw, direct and connected to the road. Visibility is incredible. The switches and controls feel almost aircraft inspired. No driver assists. No filters. Just you and the machine.

The M4 is a monster. The acceleration, braking and cornering are honestly shocking. But settle into a cruise and it becomes smooth, planted and confident.

Very different cars.
Very different eras.

But both remind you why BMW earned the phrase:

The Ultimate Driving Machine.
