I would like to clarify with my customers and community that we’re concerned about a recent hire.
I have worked with Richland county and neighboring counties’ jails, probation offices, and a number of other rehabilitation organizations for many years. In doing so I have given many men the opportunity to become a productive member of society and community through working and assisting them to get back on their feet. A large number of these men have changed their lives around after their time at L&M. I can’t guarantee these men will change, but I try to give them the tools and support to do so.
When these men come to me, some I have known for years and some are complete strangers, but I try to treat them all the same.
When I was communicating with others regarding the recent hire there was very little transparency. I was not aware of the length of his criminal history nor the severity. I was informed of his criminal history the same time the public was, the same way the public was. When I was informed I took the necessary measures and terminated employment. I do not condone his behavior. The new hire was living near the salvage yard, but not at it. His residence is terminated as well. He was immediately transferred to Vernon County. Vernon County has made an updated post of his current residence. Moving forward, the screening for new hires will be done differently.
L&M Salvage has been a family owned and ran business for over 60 years. We have sponsored and supported community events throughout these 60 years and have put family and community at the for front of our business motto. We have had customers throughout generations choose us. It has, and will always be a safe place for men, women, and children. I appreciate my customers and community and I want everyone to feel welcomed and safe coming to my business.
I apologize for the concern this has caused my customers and the community and I appreciate the continued support.
