George Luna, known as “Crazy George,” was born in Mexico and grew up in South Central LA. Today he runs Crazy Custom Classics in Sparks, Nevada, restoring old cars into lowrider “bombs.” Why bombs? Because they’re bombastic, he says. Some restorations take two years waiting on rare parts. He also started the Viejitos Car Club, “the old men” in Spanish, which now has chapters around the world, and a charity that organizes cruises to help people in need.

Some couples go to dinner. Mike and Ulani Thiessen go to the hop pit.

Mike “Cracker” Thiessen is the president of Streetwise Car Club out of Las Vegas. He’s been hopping so long he can’t even tell you how many contests he’s done, and he’s already won King of the Streets in San Francisco.

Their ‘57 Bel Air isn’t a garage queen. It goes up, it comes down, and they enter the jumping competition together, side by side.
