Folks, when (re)sealing your RV, use the correct sealants for the application. RVs use polyurethane -- NOT silicone -- for non-sag applications (used on seams, around windows, doors, storage/utility compartments & body mouldings. Silicone absolutely will not bond properly and it WILL leak. SOme industry sealants include: Geocel ProFlex RV, Dicor 551 series & Sikaflex 221.

For self-leveling applications (on the roof, around vents, antennas & other roof penetrations), use Dicor 501 series or Sikaflex 715 series.

For the edge/gutter moulding, some techs use self-leveling, some use polyurethane. If you're confident in laying a bead with sealants that sag, go for it. Otherwise, use one of the polyurethane sealants listed above.

Safe & happy travels!

In the RV service industry, especially in rural areas like Reedsport, service calls are not DoorDash, UberEats or drive-thru.
Your instant gratification ju**ie is just gonna have to take a beat. It's more like the DMV...you're going to have to take a number, sit & wait for your number to be called, then we get to you. Maybe we can fix it on the spot, maybe we can't. We're all doing our best to serve you, but this incessant dancing, around "I can't wait 24 hours!", or "Isn't that a bit expensive?", or "I don't understand why you can't just fix it right now!"? Heh-heh....yeah...

Imagine being in our shoes, putting up with impatient, often uninformed people who have no idea what it takes to be a comprehensively knowledgeable technician in an industry with very few "behind the scenes" standards, little oversight and no licensing or certification requirements to perform the duties of an RV technician. And I'm not even getting to the customers yet!

A little gratitude goes a long way when we're responding to your situation, whether it be us or any of the other qualified techs in the area. Be patient. We understand that you're in need but the world only spins so fast, there are only so many of us (the ratio of RVs to techs on the Southern Oregon Coast is probably 1:5,000) and there are a vast array of parts that none but the largest of service centers can stock even 50%. Most parts have to be ordered. Most of us keep very little inventory because we don't have $10M to build a warehouse and another $15M to stock it. We're not Jeff Bezos. We're hard-working, good, blue-collar, salt of the Earth folks who genuinely want to help you.

Given the broad skill sets we have to absorb, we charge accordingly. Remember, your mechanic is charging you around $150-200+/hr. Your contractor is charging you somewhere in that same region. Your interior designer is charging you $200-300/hr. Your plumber is charging $200+/hr. Your electrician is charging closer to $300/hr. Yet, wearing all those hats, we charge somewhere around the bottom end of that spectrum.

We do all of those things, in tight, tiny spaces. We contort our bodies to fix design problems that no self-respecting technician would create. Only wet-behind-the-ear college grads with zero field experience and customers who can, sometimes, be far worse. We help people understand why it is critical to not treat RVs as though they are a house, only on wheels.

For example, we try to help RVers understand that, when you're averaging 50 mph, STAY at 50 mph in passing zones! Let smaller, lighter, faster and WORKING traffic pass you (yes, even semi-trucks...they have somewhere to be). If you're dragging or driving an RV, toy trailer, race car hauler or overland rig, you're on holiday. Most everyone else with whom you're sharing the road is working, getting to work, on their way to an appointment (perhaps a critical medical appointment) or heading home from an exhausting day at work. Let them get to where they're going without having to end up late -- like a service call (y'know, like something YOU might need, but are inconsiderately delaying). Possibly the single most infuriating experience on the open road is that of someone driving at or below the speed limit then, when a passing zone hits, they're suddenly going 15-25 mph OVER the speed limit then, once beyond the passing zone, they return to their previous velocity. Many states (including Oregon) have laws about pulling over when you have a certain number of vehicles "stacked up" behind you, regardless of your speed. In Oregon, it's five. Once there are five vehicles pushing you down the road, even if you're driving at 15 mph over the limit, you are required to pull over (safely) and let them pass.

Also remember that you are operating a vehicle upwards of 12x the mass of most vehicles around you. That is a massive responsibility. You COULD play the "I'm the biggest, therefore I have the say." You could. What you clearly do not understand is that a 2-lb rock or a 150-lb GO KART could end you and your family, despite your 25,000-45,000 lbs. Then there's the carnage that mass could inflict on innocent bystanders.

Remember: being tardy for a campfire party is just being fashionably late. Being late for a shift or an appointment could be life-altering....in a bad way.

Be safe. Show respect. Do unto others as you would have done unto you. Be patient. When you're traveling in or with an RV, you really don't have any place to be that is more important than everyone else.

If you contact an RV tech or service center, and they can't get to you in 30 minutes, settle down and understand we are often booked out for days & weeks. It's not pizza. You don't get to throw a fit and enjoy your free service call. In fact, we might just charge you extra for putting up with you.๐Ÿ˜‰

Be well. Happy New Year. Have safe & happy travels. Cheers.

The really annoying part of this is that those RVs seem to find the Go pedal in passing lane stretches, not letting other motorists pass. Then, they tend to slow down again afterward. Being an RV guy and long-time commercial driver, I find that particularly upsetting. Slow down and stay right in passing lanes. Let other motorists pass. Many of us have jobs to get to., while you're on holiday. Show some respect.

Do NOT hire a handyman or general contractor to do RV work. The 1955 Airstream I have had at my shop for more than a year is still proving that point.

Hire a qualified RV tech. They're the ones who know how to do it right. I have a short list of qualified techs available if I'm not.

Safe & Happy travels to all!
