Today, we said goodbye to Jens, Fred’s Garage employee (1969-1974) and partner. Jens came from Denmark solely to be a mechanic at Fred's Garage in 1969 and with hard work and dedication, became a partner in 1974. After 31 years of long days, hard work, and (some) difficult customers, he retired in 2000. Jens was a master at his craft! We truly enjoyed having Jens as part of our business family. We will miss him dearly.

More importantly, he was a loving father, husband, and a dedicated man to all things he loved. We will miss his smile and his dry sense of humor.

Please feel free to share your favorite moments with Jens, we will get them to his wife and daughter.

I have been spending my days canvassing for my wife, Christina Christina Umhofer 2018 RWC City Council Campaign. Yesterday was a great VW day!
I walked up to two men working on a Turbo Beetle. I introduced myself and told them "I use to work on VW's, what is the problem?" They told me, "It is showing two codes, P0302 and P0304 misfire codes." I looked into the engine compartment and confirmed that the car needed a breather hose, which is typical for VW Turbos. He and his friend were so happy and thankful for the free advise.

Then the best part, "Hey, do you have a sign for your wife? I will place it in my yard. She's got my vote."

Thank you Redwood City, our friends, family, and our customers for all of your support over the past 58 years. Today is our last day, a bittersweet day, as the owners of Fred's Garage.
When you see us around town, please stop and say hi. We will miss all of our customers.

With a lot of thought, we have decided it’s time to retire and close Fred’s Garage forever. We are working with a local repair shop now to refer our customers to. Once we have that solidified, we will post which shop and their contact information.
