Every restoration tells a story. This one brought ours back to life.

What began as a vision for the 2026 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge became an opportunity to honor a chapter of Porsche Redwood City’s history.

Inspired by the Carlsen Race Team’s SCCA Showroom Stock 944 Turbo, our team set out to create more than a restoration. We wanted to preserve a legacy.

Over the past several months, you’ve followed every step of the journey. From finding the right 944 S2 and refreshing its mechanics to recreating the period correct livery and bringing the tribute to life.

But this project was never just about the car.

It was about the people who built the legacy, the memories that still live within these walls, and a dealership that continues to celebrate its history while looking toward the future.

Seeing Charlie Burton reunited with a tribute car that meant so much to him reminded us why preserving automotive heritage matters.

To everyone who followed along, shared a comment, attended our events, or supported our project, thank you. Your encouragement became part of this journey.

The final chapter begins now.

For months, you’ve followed every stage of our 1989 Porsche 944 S2 restoration. From its mechanical revival to bodywork, paint, and countless hours spent preserving a piece of Porsche Redwood City’s racing history.

Now, the final transformation is complete.

With the help of Rally Graphic Wraps, the period correct livery inspired by the legendary Carlsen Porsche No. 7 race car has finally come to life. Every stripe, logo, and decal was carefully researched and recreated to honor the car that inspired this tribute.

Seeing the finished graphics for the first time was the moment everything came together. This is our final update before the premiere.

Join us July 25th for the official reveal of the completed restoration and the debut of our documentary, where we’ll share the full story behind the build.

Thank you for following the journey.

🏁 We’ll see you at the finish line.

Now it starts to look the part.

Over the past several weeks, our 1989 944 S2 has been disassembled, serviced, refined, and carefully prepared for its transformation into a tribute to the Carlsen No. 7 race car.

Working alongside the team at Avenue Body Shop, we addressed years of wear and tear, corrected imperfections throughout the body, refinished key panels, and brought the Alpine White paint back to life.

The black mirrors are in place. The color matched wheels are mounted. And for the first time, the car is beginning to resemble the race inspired tribute we’ve imagined from the start.

But we’re not finished yet. The most recognizable part of the transformation is still ahead. Next up: the original race decals.

That’s when this tribute truly begins to tell the story.

A tribute is only as good as its ex*****on.

The roll cage is installed. The racing seat is in place. The vision is becoming a reality.

Now comes the part that demands patience.

We’re working alongside Avenue Body Shop to carefully assess each panel, address imperfections, and prepare this 1989 944 S2 for paint.

Every chip, scratch, and flaw tells part of the car’s story. But to properly honor the Carlsen No. 7 race car, every detail has to be right.

A track inspired tribute deserves more than speed. It deserves precision.

Next stop: the paint booth. That’s where this Alpine White 944 starts to look as good as the history behind it.

Minimal modifications. Maximum intention.

With all major service items now complete, our 1989 944 S2 has officially entered its next phase for the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge.

Inspired by the era of showroom stock racing, every modification being made serves a purpose - focused on driver safety, control, and staying true to the spirit of the original Carlsen No. 7 race car.

FIA approved racing seat.
Four-point harness.
Club roll cage.
Period-correct Porsche steering wheel.

The interior is no longer just being restored. It’s being transformed into a proper racing environment.

Next stop: the body shop, where the exterior finally begins its transition into a tribute to the Carlsen No. 7 car.

Built from factory. Tested on the track.

What made the original No. 7 car so special wasn’t just how it looked. It was how close it stayed to the cars you could buy off the showroom floor.

Showroom stock racing proved what these cars were capable of, with minimal modifications and maximum performance.

That philosophy is shaping our build.

From the roll cage to the bucket seats, to period correct details, every part is chosen with intention.

This 1989 944 S2 is no longer just a restoration. It’s becoming a race car.

Follow along as the transformation begins.

Some stories don’t stay in the past.

They live in the people, the memories, and the cars that shaped them.

Long before Porsche Redwood City, there was Carlsen Porsche, and a race team that pushed the limits of what these cars could do.

That spirit is what inspired our 1989 944 S2 restoration entry for the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge.

This project isn’t just about rebuilding a car. It’s about honoring the racing history that built this dealership. And bringing it back to life.

The journey continues.

As the Lunar New Year comes to a close, we reflect on the warmth, tradition, and togetherness that filled our showroom during this special celebration. From the lion dance to the blessing ceremony, it was a meaningful reminder of the strength and spirit within our community.

This year’s celebration also marked the beginning of something special, the first event in our 2026 Restoration Challenge journey with our 944 project. Honoring tradition while restoring legacy felt like the perfect way to start the road ahead.

To our community, thank you for sharing this moment with us. May the year ahead bring health, prosperity, and great journeys for all.

It started with a photograph.

Charlie.
A 944.
The 1980s.

That photo reminded us who we are and what we’ve built.

So for 2026, we’re entering the Individualization category with a 1989 944 S2, transforming it into a tribute to the Carlsen Race Team No. 7 car.

This isn’t just a restoration. It’s a return to our roots.

Follow the journey.
