This expedition got in a little fight and the rocker panel was badly damaged. In order to fix an aluminum side panel like this one you end up grinding out a whole bunch of rivets and pull the skin off and then glue and rivet the new one back on. You can see on this one where the black part is new and the blue car is original.

Cars need a bath before they can come inside. They are kinda like your kids actually. They come in from the fun, wet, muddyness that is outside where it was fun and now they have to get hosed off and toweled off to look presentable again. Lots gets done to a car when it is in the shop and the best first step is to make the dirt and crumbs disappear. Then the work can commence! :)

Aluminum panel replacement has a lot more rivets and glue than you might think. Steel replacement panels are welded in and then ground/sanded flat. Aluminum panels generally have a seam somewhere and then various kinds of rivets holding things in place.
