It could also be a sign of combustion issues leaving too much soot on the engine, or that your engine is running hotter than usual.

How to check your oil:
Park on a level spot. Turn of the engine and wait at least 15 minutes for it to cool down.
Pull out the dipstick, wipe it off, then insert it fully and remove it again.
The oil line should be between the full/max and low/min markers. It should also be a golden amber to deep brown color.
