April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and the Arizona Highway Patrol will increase education and enforcement in an effort to save lives. Collisions caused by distraction occur daily throughout Arizona.
Distracted driving is not only cellular phone use. It takes 100 percent of a driver’s attention to drive safely. Any activity that could cause inattention may result in tragedy.
While distracted driving can take many forms and affects all road users, younger drivers pose a greater risk. The urge to read and answer a text message when hearing the text notification can be enticing. No call, text, game, social media update or any other phone feature is worth a citation, collision, injury or death.
Safe driving is the responsibility of all motorists. Parents, as role models, are in the ideal position to demonstrate good behavior to their children operating a motor vehicle.
