$30k 63 Corvette Restoration. Many years ago we made a promise to help Irene DeRonda get her 63 Corvette back on the road. The car was a “local legend” in Putnam Valley. She has owned her Corvette 53 years since 1973 and it was a prized possession of hers. She drove the car from 1973 until 1989 when it was last driven. It sat for the next 35 years, with some time outside in my dad‘s backyard under a tarp. We picked the car up from her garage in 2023 and began the restoration process. The original plan was just to get the car running again, making it safe and drivable. But with many restorations, the next thing you know…it’s off the frame and a full restoration is underway. With a strict budget in mind, we took our time locating parts as affordably as possible. Complete Corvette restoration costs can exceed $100k with the high price of parts and labor in excess of 1000 hours. To date Irene‘s cost was $30,000. It is not done to concourse gold standards as the original engine is long gone and we have converted the car to an automatic so she can drive it more easily. A few days ago, Irene saw the car and started it for the first time in 37 years. The next step will be a quick driving lesson with her as she is a little nervous at the age of 73🤣. We know she is very excited to drive this car again, and maybe attend some local car shows. Congratulations Irene, life goes fast. It’s time to enjoy your 63 Corvette again.
