Ford 10R80 transmissions now in most new Ford expeditions and F150s are having a continual problem with the CDF drum. This is an aluminum drum with a metal sleeve inserted in the middle. Since there is no retainer for this sleeve, the sleeve tends to work its way out of the drum, causing multiple fluid flow issues. This can result in several transmission codes and typically results in hard shifting and hard down shifting. The only repair for this is to have the transmission rebuilt with an updated drum. The new drum has a shelf that limits the movement of the metal sleeve.

Transmissions work best in mild weather. Extreme heat (Summer) and Extreme Cold (Winter) are very harsh on transmissions. The only way to combat the wear associated with extreme conditions is to make sure that your transmission fluid is changed. On CVT transmissions the recommended service interval is every 30k miles. Transmissions with synthetic fluid should be changed at least every 60k miles, while transmissions with non-synthetic fluids should be changed every 30k miles.

IMPORTANT SERVICE BULLETIN ON 2016 - 2020 GM REAR WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES
We just performed a repair on a Chev Silverado with a 6.2L engine and an 8L90 transmission by replacing the internal transmission wiring harness. The customer told us that the check engine light would come on and the transmission would suddenly downshift to 3rd gear. This isn't so dramatic around town, but if the transmission downshifts to 3rd gear on the freeway, that could be frightening. GM put out a Technical Service Bulletin on 1/17/20 which generally includes 8L45 and 8L90 Transmissions produced from 2016 thru 2020. Models affected are Cadillac ATS, CT4, CT6, CTS, Escalade and Chev Camaro, Colorado, Corvette, Express, Silverado and GMC Canyon, Savana, Sierras. This is not a recall but if you have any of these vehicles and have had transmission shifting issues you should contact your dealer if it is still under Powertrain Warranty or Aamco if it is no longer under warranty.

”ACTING UP”
People often wonder at what point should they bring their vehicle in to have the transmission checked when it “acts up”.
Transmissions are so varied now that with each type of transmission, their function, and the way they fail or begin to fail can be very different. It is virtually impossible to describe all the ways a transmission may “act up” – but the primary vehicle driver may notice that it seems to “shift differently” or “act differently”. If a change is noticed - its worth having it checked out.
Many times the problem can be something minor or something other than an internal transmission fault. But, if the problem is not diagnosed and resolved quickly. The minor problem could result in a damaged transmission. So – BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.
Aamco Provo provides a FREE Initial Transmission Diagnostic and would welcome any calls if you have concerns about the way your vehicle is acting. Our phone number is 801-224-8088 – Give us a call.

Buying a used car? Bring it into AAMCO in Provo for an unbiased pre-purchase inspection, just $39.95 👏👏
Getting stuck with a lemon can cost you thousands 😳

"I'm so impressed with this place. I'm from Weber County, but was in Utah County looking to buy a used car and didn't know where to go to find a trustworthy mechanic. Dave exceeded my expectations. He spent an hour giving the car a test drive and very thorough inspection. When I came back, he showed me everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, that he saw so I knew what I was buying. I was wowed by how clean he keeps the shop. He also walked me through how Prius engines work versus regular clutch engines without "mansplaining," showing me all the parts and making it easy to understand. Couldn't recommend this place more." - Leia Larsen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
