Lots of pretty spruce to make a new mainmast for IRENE AGNES. Dave loves making spars…

The remains of a steel bolt, circa 1960. For those of you keeping score at home, it’s not supposed to look like this.

“So much room for activities!” You tend to forget how much space a boat takes up until it leaves. Comment if you remember the movie. 🍿

I was a couple seconds too late to get a photo of this blue heron perched on the side of the Whitehall looking for its next meal.

I received sad news that a somewhat ‘mentor’ of mine passed away. Mark Mason is probably best known for his restoration of BABY BOOTLEGGER, and his vast knowledge of pre-war racing boats. Every conversation I had with him left me reinvigorated with enthusiasm for projects I’ve been working on. I aspired to his knowledge, while he was probably wondering why this kid (me) kept calling him with all these random questions. Without him, I’m not sure who to ask. I tried to find a picture of he and I bombing around in CURTISS-WILGOLD II (above) but I can’t find it. Shame.

Paint colors came out beautifully. Thanks Kirby! Green Gray trim, Dark Charcoal topsides, red bottom and Barker Buff canvas deck. Looks great.

While doing some research, I stumbled on this ad from our friends at C.E. Beckman Co in a March 1928 issue of The Rudder magazine! C’mon Carl, let’s make sails again!

Friday was Lucy’s last day of her summer externship with us. We loved having her, and we wish her luck for her second year at the IYRS boat-building and restoration program. (And yes, we did give her a shirt.)
