To our valued community members:

This Friday, August 4th starting at 7am we will be bringing several concrete trucks into our facility to pour the floor of our new 30,000 square foot full rate production (FRP) building.

There will be traffic controllers to facilitate the safe and efficient flow of traffic, but please be advised that there may be additional slow-moving traffic, delays, and noise on Riverview Street.

We recognize the impact that this will have on community members and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please contact the marina office with any questions.

Senator Richard Blumenthal visited Birdon’s Portland, Connecticut facility on July 24th, 2023, to see first-hand the impact of the unprecedented flooding along the Connecticut River. The visit brought together State Rep. Christie Carpino, Ryan Curley - Portland First Selectman, Motor Lifeboat (MLB) Program Manager Dennis Hancock and representatives from local businesses, Portland Boat Works, Glastonbury Marina, and V's Rolling Stone Wood Fired Pizza.

“The flooding has hit many Connecticut businesses hard,” said MLB Program Manager Dennis Hancock. “It’s important to us that Birdon plays an active role in helping drive the recovery process for this disaster.”

Seeing the impact that this disaster has had on local Connecticut businesses conveys the seriousness of the situation to national leaders like Senator Blumenthal. On Monday, Governor Ned Lamont, alongside Senator Blumenthal, requested a federal disaster declaration that would provide relief funding for businesses impacted by the flooding.

Attention Boaters!
Please see the following notice if you boat on the Thames River.

From April 1, 2022 to June 25, 2025, between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., the Connecticut Department of Transportation will conduct repairs on the Gold Star I-95 Northbound Bridge over the Thames River, mile 3.1. Work will be performed from hanging platforms on the bridge structure. The platforms will extend over the river approximately 420 feet from the shoreline on the New London side and 290 feet from the shoreline on the Groton side and will not be over federal channel. The reduction in vertical clearance caused by the platforms will not exceed 3 feet below the current bridge vertical clearances of 135 feet (MHW). A safety boat will be in the water and will monitor VHF Channel 16 when work is performed over the water. Questions may be addressed to Scott Thompson, Project Manager Aetna Bridge Company, at 401-663-6052 or Keith Schoppe, CT DOT, at 860-213-2360.
