Well folks. Here is your public service announcement !
History is in the making!
For those who don’t know me personally , I have been involved in trucking, and truck towing in some way or another, most my adult life.
So, I seen some high fuel prices and changes in freight rates , But this is an official record!
8$!!!! A gallon. (A friend sent me this picture today).
Here is some context : Most trucks get 5-6 mpg loaded!
Then you have to pay state mileage tax for the big trucks. Then it a drivers to drive the truck, a mechanic to fix it and pay for the truck itself and the trailer!
With that said : I warn you folks now: stock up on what you can afford cause these costs will get passed down to the consumers at the check out!
What you pay today for food and goods will go up dramatically in the next few months. Maybe even weeks.
The side effect of high prices on pre negotiated rates at the start of the year between shippers, product producers and trucking companies will all have to be REnegotiated like they did during covid.
Trucking companies will ask for more money, shippers will try and resist and freight will sit, in turn trucks will sit until the rates get settled.
I will expect to see shortages on certain things iF this keeps up and major price increases on what’s on the shelf.
And if fuel is not bad enough ….
the purging of the trucking freight hauling sector will create and demand for drivers.
A true demand. Not like the demand of the past where it was really a shortage of drivers willing to drive for peanuts. This next shortage of cdl drivers will be the real deal!
That will also increase rates for shipping.
This will be very interesting to watch how it plays out. It will be musical
Chairs , survival of the fittest and hunger games all rolled into one big game and the no matter who wins the consumer will pay at the pump, the check out at grocery stores and everything else hauled by trucks to you. Which is everything incase you didn’t know!
Let the games begin!!!
