Yesterday at the Sam's Club gas station while fuelling up my Eldorado, a nice lady saw my Ontario license plates and yelled "We're sorry, Canada". I didn't know what to reply. I just said "Everything will work out". I appreciate the sentiment. But I am not going to take sides. Because there isn't one.
I'm very much pro-American.
I'm very much pro-Canadian.
I was born in Canada.
I've had family in West Texas my whole life. This meant family trips across the border and down through the Ozarks to visit them.
I've serviced many Cadillacs with license plates from over 30 states and all Canadian provinces.
Our people are not that different. Right now we're being fed propaganda from both sides meant to fuel a divide.
I don't care about the name of a Lake, as long as the water is kept clean and people from both sides have access to it and enjoy it. I care about the people. Names don't matter. Canada is in America, always has been. So the "new" name is not incorrect. To many of us it will always be Lake Ontario.
The truth is, I don't know what is going to eventually happen to the two economies, or the border as it has been known for many years.
But I do know one thing.
There is no amount of propaganda they can feed me to turn against my neighbour. Not now, not tomorrow, not ever. I want to encourage you to follow suit. We are all better than that. The next viral video that gets views through divisive politics, or the next idiot with loose lips that says something negative, does not speak for all of us.
Trust in God and what ever His plan is for North America. I pray that every one of you, on both sides of the line, are prosperous and can navigate the trade situation as it keeps changing. I, myself, am getting there. It's been challenging. But God will always make a way for you. If a door closes, a window will open.
