The last few days of the week my family had spent some time trying to recover from the flu. We're almost over it now.

My latest project that will be incorporated into the new NSP website when it launches, is our own RPO code report generator that is specifically tailored to the Northstar powered cars.

It will show you the engine info, horsepower and torque, installed options, assembly plant, the OEM speed limiter, the vehicle trim level, etc.

You will even be able to just take a snapshot of your existing RPO code placard and upload it, it will create a report like this for you!

If you have a first gen Aurora, it will tell you immediately whether it's an Autobahn car or not.

There will be lots of neat features on the new NSP website. It's not quite finished yet. Hoping to get it launched in the near future. :)

Anyone else been following the collab between Oakland Auto Detail and Canvai?

I've never been huge into the 2000's era tuner cars but I sure have a lot of respect for the era (I lived through it). I had neon's on my 1985 Parisienne back in the day. I just went for the cubic inches.....all 403 of them.

The guys from Canvai brought their car from Quebec to Michigan and hung out with Eric. Still waiting to hear back if the Cavalier made it into the 15's 😁

I love to see people making their dreams come true. Congrats to both these content creators and small business owners. You're an inspiration to many.

We will be adding two features to our engine reconditioning program very shortly.

A "crate locator" - as the crates that are built for shipping engines, they generally are not a "one-time" use crate. They can be used numerous times. They can be bought and re-sold.

A "crate builder" database of people that will build these crates to our specifications and will have the shipping brackets ready to go. Not all auto repair shops are going to want to mess with custom building a crate, and strapping an engine to a skid works, but isn't near as safe as shipping in a dedicated crate.

This will result in some side-work for local guys with basic construction tools, and make it easier and more cost effective to send engines into us for repair. There's a little bit of opportunity here to be had for anyone with a miter saw, circular saw, and either a nailer or impact driver. We have the plans for these crates, they just need to be built. Bonus if you work a construction job and end up with excess lumber and OSB off cuts.

It would be nice to have crate builders in the following 10 cities first and foremost:

Chicago
Houston
Dallas
Detroit
Minneapolis (or St. Paul)
Nashville
Atlanta
Kansas City
Indianapolis
St. Louis

The goal here is to make it pretty easy for people to ship their engines to us.

We recently had an engine sent into our Port Huron facility from Kansas. It got stripped down, cleaned, resealed and studded with our Patented Suregrip Cylinder Head Studs!

No more leaks or overheating on this 2004 LD8!

This engine was in terrific condition but did need a few timing components replaced.

Installation gaskets were set in a package in the valley so when the customer receives this back, he should have everything he needs to install.

Cost for a service like this is $3500 (provided the engine does not need a full rebuild). Shipping round trip ran about $575 total, including a lift-gate service on the customer end. We took care of scheduling the truck- so the customer just needed to have it ready.

Crate instructions were provided to the customer and he built the crate. We sent him the laser cut shipping brackets.

A new oil level sensor and oil pressure sensor were installed for good measure, at no additional charge.

Roll call for FWD GM owners!

Being a Northstar guy you might be surprised at what else I love to drive. This was my 2000 Bonneville SSEI with the legendary L67 Supercharged 3800 Series II. I didn't modify it other than tuning it. And eventually the honeycomb in the catalytic converter broke and turned sideways so the car ended up getting a little bit "lighter".

As much as I love my current 2004 Bonneville GXP, there are things I like about the SSEI even more. The seats were more comfortable and I prefer full leather over the suede inserts. The body lines....tough comparison there. But the GXP handles better in all aspects.

I've owned others over the years. Let's see:

My sister owned a 1998 Regal GS.....L67 again.
My dad had a 1993 Olds Touring Sedan (3800 Series 1 S/C)

GM really made some sweet rides during this era and as much as I love the Northstar.....the 3800 was one incredible little powerplant. Most of them would outlive the body they were bolted into.

What's in your driveway of this era? Any memories you'd care to share?

I apologize for having missed some calls / emails yesterday. Brittany and I were in Milan, Michigan picking up some items for the Port Huron shop from an auction. We had a deadline to get some things out. My oldest kids were helping disassemble some shelving units to bring back to our shop. This truly has become a family business again. :)

And thanks to the kind fella there who helped speed up the process by helping with his Milwaukee impact. I was an idiot and left mine back at the shop. 🤣

Working on catching up to the office this morning and whatever was missed yesterday.

And this is the end goal right here. To be able to share status updates with the customer throughout a repair job in a way that keeps them in the loop and up to date, without requiring phone calls, emails, texts, etc. Time saved for me and better communication with the customer.

I can keep them up to date with repair jobs, findings of worn parts, upload photos, etc...

This technology is available when I order a pizza.....so why not when someone had a Northstar engine overhauled?!
