In Michigan, deer don’t avoid people, they take joy in inconveniencing us.

They stand in the middle of the road like they’re reviewing paperwork. They leap across highways with zero warning. They show up in backyards, stare through windows, and act offended when you exist in their space.

Every Michigander knows the rule: if your headlights catch a pair of glowing eyes, whatever happens next is between you and fate. And if you think honking helps? It doesn’t. Deer treat honking like a polite suggestion at best.

We may live here.
