Well looks like winter has finally arrived, this weekend was the first frost on my windshield of the year!
Here's a few tips for winter driving in our area just as a refresher!
All-Wheel-Drive is great for getting you going in winter weather, however most accidents occur when braking or turning. All cars have 4 tires and 4 brakes! So make sure your tires are inflated to the proper PSI and check your tread depth while you're there. Make sure your brakes ABS systems are functioning correctly. A sticky brake is an annoyance in summer, it's a slide when the roads are slick.
It's dark out! Make sure your headlights are working! If your headlight housing is faded or discolored either replace it or use one of the many headlight polishing kits available! (Ernie's tip: You can use the same products for your paint on your headlight housing, rubbing compound and wax work wonders and keeps them bright!)
And for the words that strike fear into the bravest of us... Black Ice! Best bet is always to have properly inflated tires with tread on them. Slowing down when visibility is poor is important, especially around corners where you don't see the reflection off the ice. One of the main spots that black ice happens is on bridges, around curves and dips in the road, and where the road is shaded. So exercise caution in those areas.
