The 12-Valve Cummins is widely considered the ultimate swap engine, but the engineering reality tells a different story. Its legendary reliability stems entirely from factory detuning. P-Pump 12-Valves pushed a modest 160 to 215 horsepower. At those power levels, a modern 5.9L or 6.7L Common Rail would easily outlast it.

The real problem begins when you chase horsepower. Modifying the Bosch P7100 mechanical injection pump requires extreme precision. Most modified 12-Valves we see suffer from terrible drivability due to improperly sized delivery valves, poorly adjusted 3k or 4k governor springs, and unbalanced AFC tuning resulting in high EGTs and excessive smoke.

The Firepunk Value Add: Upgrading to or swapping in a Common Rail system gives you precise electronic control over injection timing, duration, and pressure. A stock 5.9L Common Rail with a basic tune will deliver significantly more horsepower, better fuel economy, and vastly superior street drivability than a heavily modified 12-Valve.

Lavon is out of town all weekend and I am tired of looking at these Blemished SFI OD Housings! The housings have a pin hole where the Transmission mount bolts to the case. If you put the bolts in all 4 holes with loctite, they usually do not leak. They will need the case or park rod machined for the park rod to have full movement to get Manual 1st. Retail is $499, clearance for $250. Will make deals if you are looking to purchase in quantity!
